Pool opened 5/8/2020. I hire this done. Chlorine level was high (30), I'd been watching carefully. SWG turned off, not very sunny, pool cover open, watching chlorine level drop by 1 point per day. two days ago chlorine still high at 14, we were going to have rain and it was cold, so closed cover. water level was just above skimmer already. Last night turned on heater to warm water for weekend, opened pool this AM, slightly cloudy.
FC 1
CC 0
TC 1
ALK 40
SALT 3200
CYA 80
Ph 6.8
NO BORATES CURRENTLY
Found either a mouse or a mole in the skimmer basket this AM
Obviously I need to add chlorine and get alk/ph adjusted. My question is, since there is no FC, do I have to SLAM?

Address your pH and TA. Add 30 ppm TA worth of baking soda. Let it circulate and test pH and TA. If pH still below 7, add borax to raise it to the 7's. 7.2 is ideal

Once you have pH in the 7's. Raise your FC to 20% of CYA. Do a OCLT tonight or tomorrow night.

With the CYA at 80, if I SLAM, should I backwash to get rid of water and refill to decrease the CYA level? Full readings this AM are:

pH 7.2
FC 16.5 (was 20 at bedtime)
CC 0
TC 16.5
Alk 80
pH 7.2
CYA 80

Pool still slightly cloudy. Maybe a little less.

That much overnight loss is not good.
Filter backwash does nothing for FC loss.

SLAM at high CYA is primarily a testing problem. Your FC loss is about the same. So it is up to you on replacing some of your water. It needs to be 25% or more to make a difference.

During SLAM, would you at least close and open the pool cover daily, or a couple times daily so the bottom touches the high clorine level, to treat the bottom of the cover? Of course in addition to the backwash and brushing walls, etc.

Your signature does not show you have an autocover.

Your cover could be an issue. One, it needs to be open for some time each day to let sun on the water to remove CC. But it also needs to be hit with chlorine to remove algae. Do your best on that.
