Rookie question

Good Afternoon!!

I can confidently report that after adding 64oz of Stabilizer my CYA levels are now 20ppm. I plan to add another 48oz today. I am also starting to see a slight difference in the watercolor.

Thus far, I have only had to backwash my sand filter once. At what point would it be okay to add DE or Fiber Filter to help with the cloudiness.

Here are this morning's numbers (8:30 am)
FC - 17
CC -.5
TC - 17.5
CH- 125
TA - 80
CYA - 20
pH- 7.5

As always thank you for all your help and stay safe!!

Do realize with a CYA of 20 your SLAM level FC is 10 ppm. Going above that does not do much good and your chlorine burns off due to UV very quickly.

Some folks with sand filters do the DE method often. But it does take monitoring the filter pressure very closely. So up to you.
Have you read the article on the process?

I was going for the recommended 30/12 levels. I went a little over board on the LC.
I’ve read the article. At this point I’m being extra cautious. I don’t ever want to have to deal with a green pool like again!

Thanks for you help!

Add the DE 1/4 cup at a time. Watch it for about 15 mins. Be ready to shut off the pump it the pressure shoots up. If it stays steady for an hour add another 1/4. Do this routine until you see a SLIGHT rise in pressure. If, at any time, the pressure shoots up shut off the pump and do a short back wash. Each filter is so different. We had one that only liked 1/4 and another that like 1 cup so.....use care and ask your filter what it likes!

Keep count as to how many cups you ended up with and that will be your number every time you ad DE without going through this again. One psi rise is where you should stop.
