Hello all
I noticed that my robot wasn't moving along at all, and the return lines were barely blowing; the pump basket was barely filled.
I cleaned out the filter 4 days ago, so it didn't come from it.

I checked the opening to the impeller inside the pump, and it was completely covered with leaves and twigs and what not.
I looked at the pump strainer basket, and it is not broken anywhere.
So how did all of that debris get there if the basket is in good shape?

My only hypothesis: there was debris in the pump area, sitting below the basket, and at some point the basket lifted up and the debris got sucked in??

How else?

First, make sure that the basket is installed correctly.

It's an isosceles trapezoid. So, it fits only one way correctly.

Second, place a medium sized rock in the basket to keep it from floating up.

thanks james. An Isosceles trapezoid?? Wow. when was the last time that you used those words. Yes, it only fits 1 way, but I will put a rock in for sure. And I read in another thread to use a hairnet on the skimmer basket to reduce all that crud that gets into the cartridge.

are you sure it’s not a rhombus?

probably not, I just like the word rhombus and never get a chance to say it.

Every time the pump shuts off the pressure built up between it and the filter pushes back into the pump causing the basket to lift and the debris in it to stir. A rock does the trick.

Rhombus... Rhombus... I like it.
