Is this normal? New Construction - Vermiculite base

My husband and I feel like the vermiculite/base layer under the liner should be smoother than it is. What do you think? I have never seen a pool with dips, humps, divot, etc like this before. Am I stuck with this or should the pool company provide better workmanship.

I actually had to sign a disclaimer with my PB that they would take every care possible but wrinkles/divots were impossible to garauntee against. That disclaimer kept me up at night from that moment until the pool was filled. Mine did end up with a couple of minor flaws but overall I thought they did a good job. I would definitely do my best to refuse yours though. Does it look really bad during the day, or only with the lights on ?

I'm assuming this is a new pool? Have you made your final payment?

Sorry you are dealing with that, but I would be calling the pool builder and not giving them any more money until it is fixed.

You can see a good bit of the holes during the day, but all the imperfections are magnified under the light.

Unfortunately that’s the nature of the beast. If you shine a flashlight down most walls in people houses they will show off many imperfections also. Hopefully they will revisit your liner and improve it a great deal.

Yes, this is a new construction. We have not made the final payment. The PB is supposed to come look at the bottom, but my suspicion is he is going to act like it is normal.

I am a 'virgin' pool owner, so only have ours to compare to (installed this past fall). Yours looks super bumpy :( I only had this one night time pic before our pool was closed for reference.

Glad they were able to improve things for you. Our first pool had trowel lines in the plaster that were magnified a billion times by the light! It's much better since we re-plastered but we had to live with the original for 20 years!
