Especially when your new pool was finished in the fall and open for a hot 3 minutes before closing it for the winter. Every day I look at the pretty new pool and cannot wait for spring to at least get it open!

I'm having major climate jealousy right now living in PA

You have a heater on your pool to swim early in the spring?

Mine is hard to avoid too. Just sitting at the kitchen table and its impossible to miss the $60k trampoline. We are 1/3 of the way there. Nov/Dec are like practice winter. Jan/Feb is winter for real and March/April will be undecided, sometimes day by day.
But at least come March you can start setting things up, shopping for planters, etc and it will start to feel summer-y long before it is.

Yes! I was really bummed I didn't get to purchase and plant the shrubs and perennials I want this fall, but we just weren't there yet. Fall is so great to plant and things are usually on sale. I am looking forward to grass again and not wiping muddy paws! lol

I dunno guys. I get you all feeling that it’s because the pool is new but I have that same feeling with my 8th season coming up. And I’m home indefinitely waiting for approvals for a probably shoulder surgery. I get to see the trampoline about 75 times a day and each and every time ‘is a sad’ as my pal Miss Kim would say.

I once accidentally slipped and fell into my pool in January. When you’re fully clothed there’s a weird delay of about 1-2 secs before you’re clothes saturate and you feel the water. The water temperature was 36F that day and the outdoor air temp was about 46F. The side door was locked and I had to walk around to my back door soaking wet. It took a long time in a hot shower to get back to normal body temp.

Sometimes I wish I could cover my pool and not have to walk by it all the time. It looks very enticing but I know first hand what a tease it is ?

We used to fall though the ice all the time playing pond hockey growing up. The instant fear was worse than the falling in part. But then like you said it wasn’t that bad for a few seconds. Just long enough to think ‘Oh, this won’t be so bad’. Aaaaaaaaaand then the cold would hit. Yup. It’s bad. Really really bad. Better fly out of here bad.

I am meeting my husband at a neurosurgeon today to talk about surgery for him. He's had chronic stenosis and it's finally bad enough where he agreed to see a doc. 99% sure surgery is coming (which I'm happy about, he needs it!) So he'll be sitting at home too soon ?

That’s where I’m at. Dealt with it as it got worse over time. Took a month to get through the hoops and have an MRI. Going back to the surgeon on Monday to hatch a plan. But yeah. I’m home to notice the pool closed up 100x more right now. Yuck.

Also Tara, let’s think happy thoughts. Been meaning to ask you where you are at now that you’ve had a few months of thinking about sprucing up the back yard ?

Ahhh yes. The insurance runaround with the MRI. That took us a while too. Frustrating!

The boulder wall is done and the yard has been hydroseeded. I won't lie - I thought we'd have grass coming in sooner and wouldn't have a mud pit all winter. But oh well. I'm skeptical about the seed sitting all winter and magically growing in spring, but really hoping to be proved wrong!

We need to figure out what to do where the yard grass meets the river rock that's around the concrete. Normally we spray round up under our fence line (less to weed wack). That was my initial thought for this too, but maybe just digging a small trench border. I really don't want to add yet another hardscape product as an edger.

My mind is already racing at what plants to use. I have visions of Hydrangeas (but then again, I always want to put Hydrangeas everywhere, haha). The direct sun will be a bit tricky for perennials. Hoping to sneak in some type of pine/small tree as well to anchor the one corner as well. I'd really love a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick (they are the coooooolest), but my frugal core is going to make that a hard spend.

This video was taken Nov 4th after the hydroseed. There are now river rocks scattered all over, along with mud everywhere from the dogs. I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but we own a small in home dog sitting business. So it's been SUPER fun  I'm not one to share FB links, but YouTube is being a PIA and I can't upload this. But this pretty much is my life. MUD. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3152594068088931&id=232611536753880

The MUD.......oh the MUD then add dogs to it= MUDDY EVERYTHING!! your poor house and floors!

Rock edging............throwing some ideas out to see what sticks:
-Mondo grass planted along the edge of the rocks. Very pretty and durable!
-bricks to act as edging. A small stream of Round up every once in a while should keep the grass from over growing it.
-channel like you talked about but filled with colored concrete and maybe with some extra pretty rocks pushed into it.

Thoughts? Don't worry about hurting my feelings if you don't like any of these ideas. Just hoping I might thought of something you had not and like it.

I luurrrveee Mondo grass! That would be my go-to, but then we would still need an edge between the grass and the yard grass. But MG is so durable itd prob be fine to chop the small edges off with the mower. (I am trying to not make any more weed wacking. I do most of the mowing and LOATHE trimming, haha!) I also like the colored concrete idea, maybe something a bit darker. Hmmm, now you have me thinking!

PS - I am so glad we decided to do our whole house in wood look tile when we gutted it a few years ago. It pained me price wise then, but with dogs and kids it has been a dream in terms of maintenance!

Ohhhhh there is a black variety of mondo! I'm going to email my local greenhouses to see if they ever get that in. That might be a nice contrast to the green of the yard and the dull grey of the rock...

You CAN mow mondo grass! Raise your mower deck up a click or two and mow right over it. I have a couple of areas I do that with and it looks awesome! I even spray Round up around it and know I get some on the MG and it does not hurt it at all! Now BLACK Mondo Grass?? WOW! I would love that!
