Late pool upgrade..Intex Proseries to Evolution 1200...so nervous...need help.

So we upgraded from a rusted out Intex Proseries 20’ pool with a sand filter, 1 hp pump to an
Evolution 1200 Above Ground
It’s 54” x 28’ round, 18,000 gallons
10” printed steel top ledge
Black Diamond Cartridge Filter w/150 sq.ft. Tank
1.5hp Simple clean pump
Simple Salt Ionizer sanitation system.

We waited until the end of the season to get their deal. It was purchased, installed & filled within last 2 weeks.
Now I’m going to pretend it’s the beginning of the season to get it set up just to winterize it in a month. My problem is I’m so freaked out about
Using bleach & muriatic acid bcuz I’m told it will destroy the liner & the cartridge.
I know I need to calm down and read again to familiarize myself with how to handle this pool set up. I had it down with the Intex pool and didn’t feel like it mattered if I hurt it with the bleach or acid.
So the problem is trying to figure out if this pool is really that much different from the Intex? Not really bcuz it’s still a vinyl liner.
So can I slam this pool the same way with bleach?
I’m using the bags of shock from the pool store currently. It’s working but they want me to flock the pool which I despise doing. Im trying to brush and let the filter do its job. I keep pulling the huge filter out and cleaning it but is that all that necessary until the water flow gets compromised? And filtering to waste....I’m concerned the drain on the cartridge filter canister where I’m suppose to filter to waste through looks like it would actually drain the pool. Idk but I’m nervous. Any advice would be helpful.
I have rather Taylor kit that I have used faithfully for years.
I haven’t started up the simple salt system yet bcuz I want to get the pool clean first of algae.

Welcome to TFP! Congrats on the new pool. It sounds as if you're receiving some conflicting info from the pool store, and that's expected. Best to avoid them altogether. You mention not starting the salt system yet because of algae? You have algae already? If so, you'll need to follow the SLAM Process before closing. If you don't have algae, simply follow the Closing (Winterizing) Your Above Ground Pool - Trouble Free Pool page. Yes, bleach and muriatic acid are fine to use when used in proper amounts. Always refer to the TFP Recommended Levels - Trouble Free Pool page for details of where those levels should be. If you have more questions, just let us know.
