Needing advice

As you can see from Avatar - I am not one to consult with on hair ------

Though I would suppose that pH and CC has more effect than FC.

Sand should be fine unless compromised. If your deep clean did not find it clumped up, then it should be fine.

Start planning now for vacation. Get your CYA lower as you can as you will need to use trichlor. Can a neighbor add liquid chlorine every once in awhile?
Haha maybe someone else can weigh in on the hair :)
I will have my mother in law available to add chlorine, but I'm not sure we would have her do any testing. Hopefully by then I'll have a sense of how much maintenance chlorine is needed. We will leave the solar cover on while gone. Hopefully with a bit more backwashing between now and then we will see lower CYA.

Well the pool is clear (maybe not 'sparkling' yet but improving daily) and I am still maintaining SLAM level as best I can with lots.of swimmers in and out of the pool. Attemtped the overnight test and lost 4ppm, although the CC is 0 or very near 0. Is there any harm in adding a copper free algaecide so I can back off the chlorine, and also preventative for the 10 days we will be gone?
Our pool is 30k gal and I have dumped an unbelievable amount of chlorine in. Yesterday alone 4 gallon.

The only algaecide that is recommended on this forum is called Polyquat 60. The active ingredient in the bottle should read 60% "Poly (oxyethylene (dimethyliminio ethylene (Dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride". It is sold by many different companies under many different names but no matter who you buy it from or what brand it is, make sure it has ONLY this ingredient and NO copper. I hate Leslie's but they do sell it in their retail locations. I have only been able to find it in pool stores and online. It's not sold everywhere so you may have to do some searching.

The only problem is that when you add it to your pool, it consumes some chlorine because the chlorine tries to break down the algaecide. So keep that in mind. Your call on whether or not you want to use it.

Here is a quart of it on Amazon Amazon.com : Kem-Tek KTK-50-0006 Pool and Spa 60-Percent Concentrated Algaecide, 1 Quart : Swimming Pool Algaecides : Garden & Outdoor

As you can see, it's also not cheap either. About $20/quart.

Lost 10ppm FC again yesterday. Added another 3 gal shock. Ordering the polyquat to see if this helps with chlorine usage bc I'm currently spendig $10 or more daily. CYA is 60 and I'm adjusting FC to at least 24 2x per day.
We have had several pink slime outbreaks in previous years. I wonder if it is in the water supply and consumimg FC even when not visible? Although CC remains 0 or .5. Just seem to be bleeding FC.
Thanks.
