Trying to balance pool it’s not working

So this morning I didn’t loose anything from the time I went to bed to the time I woke up and the filter was clear of algae the pool looks beautiful and I’m still at 0.5 CC.

So now I just let the extra chlorine burn off and adjust the PH and I’m back in business?

I had a small fear of doing this my self as I’m not sure about chemistry in general and I have no experience in forums but I’m glad I did because now I don’t need a pool person thanks for the help everyone I really appreciate it

Can you post a picture?

If you passed all three criteria for the SLAM, let your FC come down to maintenance and start adding liquid chlorine every day to make up for the FC lost.

Can I ask questions here until I’m sure because I don’t know where else to post otherwise?

I thought FC had to be around 2 ppm for normal pool use but the chart says 6 to 8 if your cya is 50 which it is

101851

It says to check black dot at waist level my eyesight is pretty poor so I’m not sure I’m reading it right but I think it’s at 50 now

Follow the FC/CYA Levels. It is based on the science of CYA buffering the FC. With a non-SWCG pool you target 7.5% of CYA as your minimum. So stay in the Target range to allow for daily loss prior to adding your liquid chlorine each day.

Thanks, I feel more confident about maintaining my own pool now
You did good! It looks fabulous, and we were all beginners at one time. When I started, it was very overwhelming. My initial goal was to keep my numbers in the suggested ranges and call it a day. Over time it all became second nature, and truthfully, you won't find an easier or more economical way to care for your pool.

I put in a gallon of bleach to get it up to 8 ppm

I’m curious if I use my old comparator to check the chlorine in the pool or if I gave a sample to the pool store to be tested will the numbers be higher or the same from the 2006c results or does the 2006c test for something in the chlorine...I’m trying to understand how I’m not over chlorinating the pool I guess because I noticed a lot of those colored testers show numbers like 2 to 3 if I remember correctly

Use your FAS-DPD test for FC. The comparator is just to see if there is chlorine in the water if the other test shows something strange.

Do not use pool store testing. I have never had my water tested by a pool store.

All the science behind the FC levels based on your CYA level.

According to the FC test I have no chlorine in the pool and my PH is over 80 again, I put water in yesterday and it rained once since the last time I added a gallon of bleach and 3 cups of MA which I believe was 2 days ago. Am I supposed to keep using bleach or was I supposed to switch back to the stuff from the pool store, maybe I missed something

Pool still looks beautiful just I can’t keep the numbers straight

You must add bleach EVERY DAY. The chlorine is consumed by the sun.
I assume you meant your pH was 8.0. Lower it to 7.6. Be sure you have a current test for TA in Poolmath when determining how much acid to use to lower your pH.
