hi guys, i have the above sand filter that has a leaking manifold from underneath. there are no screws on this to change the spider washer. is this something that i can replace or is this a sealed unit.

ill have a look if it has a part number. i know on the austral pool documentation it shows it as austral order code 20565. i sent them a request for some info yesterday but waiting a respinse. im on an pension so dont really have a tonne of money to biy a new filter. have had to pay alot to make my hoyse livable already and the pool can help with my disability.

Thanks for your help guys

so would it be a spider gasket in this or is it going to be sealing with plumbers putty around the actual housing ? i can get a friend to figure out how to take it off but it seemed like it was peseed sealed on. a pool guy has quoted 550 to replace the manifold and a new filter is the same price. would be good if i had 550 laying around. :(

It would have a spider gasket in there but there would also be an outer o-ring. The ones Ive pulled apart after taking the bolts out have an O-ring seal.

How long has it been since it was back washed and what is your pressure reading?

If it does need repair it will be always cheaper to take the multi port off and take it in yourself.

Running a sand filter over pressure will cause damage and/or leakage. If it is over pressure and needs a backwash it would be better to do it now. If your pressure gauge is not working it needs to be replaced too.

You haven’t over filled it maybe? An overfilled sand filter will backup and over pressure in no time. Typically they are filled to arround 2/3, to where the walls start to tapper back in.

no not over filled say 130kg sand or 105 glass/zeo. i put in 105 glass and its at about 2/3. im going to try silicon sealant inside the housing as the puul shop guy said the oring seems ok. if that doesnt work im going to just get a davey filter. have to scoop out the glass and put it in buckets to get to the course glass at the bottom though so going to be fun
