Crisnpete

Volume: 12000 Gallons
Build Type: Plaster
Drain and fill 2 days ago. Sparkle and splash came for a chem balance but did not add any CYA or Calcium and left TA very high. Not a good start.

Back from vacation. Sparkle and Splash still taking care of pool. Noticed the spillover has calcium buildup. Did my own chem tests and levels are pretty good except Calcium is getting high. Chlorine is also high so have turned down the SWG. In Oct I turned off the night SWG run because I saw the calcium was high in Doug’s email. Lowered daytime to 30% from 40 to hopefully lower it. Since water temp is around 60 degrees it will take a while to lower and soon SWG will not work due to water temps.
Looks good but PH is at 7.7 so pool guy did not add enough to lower it enough to last a week. It may be well above 8 by the time he tests again. Don’t want to treat it since I am paying Sparkle and Splash and he may track treatments to figure out proper care. I can’t do much about it since I am leaving for the next couple of months. I hope I don’t return to a bunch of scaling.

Sparkle and Splash took over the pool care. They do test and brush the pool. He did not lower the ph enough and I suspect it will rise to well above 8 before he gets back to treat it. He only treated pool with a little acid.
Added enough acid(40oz)to lower TA. May need to do it again but at 90 it made the PH old steady better. Calcium went down with rain but still need to lower it more. Rain lowered CYA so added 1 lb to bring it back up to 60. May need to raise it some more but out of stabilizer. Sparkle and Splash will take over pool care starting the 1st. Do not know what days they will come.

Checked pool chems now that deck project is done and pool has been off since the 21st. The chems are not bad considering the pool has been off. Chlorine did not fall too low and PH slowly rose from my lowering it to treat the TA. It stayed with in limits until the project was done. Will treat PH in a few days once pool is cleaned.
Pool deck is done. The pool is filthy with large chunks of concrete and lots of sand/sediment. Will skim and vacuum as much as we can before turning in cleaning schedule.
Started pool deck and paver cool deck coating. What a mess it is making of the pool. Have pool shut off so nothing gets in filters.
Adjusted both day and night SWG. 12p-4p 35% / 12a-4a 30% until goes down to 7ppm. Thought I had adjusted night time 2 days ago but did not. Will tank PH to drop TA.

Have been leaving the testing to the pool company I pay 155$ a month yet all he does is empty the skimmers and clean filters and cell. Argh. Anyway. About to leave in vacay and check PH and TC and found PH in the toilet at 7.13 ;(. TC is about 10 and probably still going down from shock before we left in Vacay is Nov. I know pool guy said he would be off for a week so will not be treated for two but he must have dumped the PH way below 7 for it to be still so low at 7.13. He head here on Monday and it is now Friday. I think I am wasting money.
Kind of surprised all the chems are within range except for Chlorine and I knew that. Still concerned about noise level of pump. Bill said they do get louder during colder weather. Will let it go for now. Once the rain stops and everything dries out I will add the new sound proofing to the pump cover.

I hate testing CYA. I can still slightly see the dot but I just added stabilizer and it should have gone up but it seems nothing changed. Pool seems to be looking good and everything is stable so will leave as is. SWG is at 40% 10A-5P and it seems to be holding the chlorine at 5-8 ppm.

Decided to change when I run my SWG and run it just during the day It will run it 10a-5p at 40%. That will cover all the sun hours since the pool is shaded after 4. Since it does not lose chlorine at night I will stop that run.
Didn’t lose any chlorine overnight and PH seems stable, that’s a first. TA is creeping up so will keep and eye on it. PH seems to be more stable with the higher TA but will try to keep it between 70-80. CH is holding steady but the CYA is kind of low for a SWG but right on for a non-SWG pool. Will watch chlorine to see if it is enough. Turned back on SWG at 60% day and 30% night. Will adjust tonight if chlorine goes up.

Only lost 3.5ppm on chlorine today. Not bad with how sunny it was. I will leave the SWG off over night and test again in am to make sure there is no significant loss. Since chlorine is at the high end of what I should keep it at with my CYA I will turn on the SWG for tomorrows daytime run. I set it at 60% in hopes of keeping it between 6-8ppm. I will run an over night run starting tomorrow at 30% to bump it a little for the next day. Will continue to test in AM and PM for another few days to make sure everything is stable before I relax on the testing.

Well the Super Chlorinate function turned off last night. Not happy. Is supposed to stay on 24 hours. I reset it so will leave it on all day. I am also going to add more liquid chlorine. I found green slime in the skimmer so I know it is working. The water does look clearer but will be able to tell for sure tonight. Will add enough liquid chlorine to hopefully bring chlorine above 10pm. I thought for sure the 20 cups I put I. Yesterday would do it but the algae must have taken up a lot of it.

After reading all about shocking I decided to run a “super chlorinate” on the SWG. It will run at 100% for 24 hours. It should help to keep the chlorine I already added up long enough to kill the algae. I will test in AM and PM then decide to run the Super Chlorinate another day and Test again.
Instead of just adding 10 cups of 12.5% bleach I also added what was left of an open bottle of 10%. About 49 oz of the 10%. Hopefully this is enough bleach with the Phos out to clear up the cloudy water. Didn’t really notice it until I turned on the lights in the pool at night. Really shows it then.

Even after adding in 40oz of 12.5% liquid bleach chlorine levels still did not go up. Will add more bleach to raise chlorine to 7 and hope the SWG(which I raised earlier) will pick up the rest to bring to 10pm And will add phos out to remove any phosphates. Last test 2 weeks ago showed 130. Will add 16oz of Phos out.

My test results today were PH 7.40 and the Chlorine is at 4ppm. Pool water temp 69•
Tested the water today after the SWG ran and it was at 4ppm. If I go by yesterdays test results I lose 1 ppm over night and the SWG raises it to 4 during the day. It is right where I want it but while we are gone I may need to adjust it. Also according to my tests it takes about 7 days to raise the PH after I tank it to lower the TA. Since Bill will be doing that over the next 7 weeks I am hoping that will keep the PH and the TA in check while I am gone.

Scale showed up over night at waterline. Fuck!!!! Need more CYA. Treated it but must still be low. Chlorination is working but water not holding it. Will dump TA with acid as it has crept up there. Will add chlorine since it is very low. Will recheck checks tomorrow.

Sparkle and Splash came by again to test and adjust. Said they added 7 lbs of baking soda at bring TA up. Said everything else was ok. Said they got 30 for CYA and felt that was a low normal and would leave it alone.
Will watch chlorine since it is a little high but with hardly any CYA maybe it will burn off.
I did set spillover to on to aerate water hoping to bring up PH a little without resorting to chems.
Had reverse osmosis done March 9th. by Sparkle and Splash. Came back the 10th for equipment and on the 11th to add chems for water balance. I was gone this week and tested today. Low TA, PH and CYA. Sparkle and Splash supposed to be back tomorrow to test and adjust one last time. I will wait and leave it to them since we paid for it. Will test again after they are done to tweak them chems to where I want them.

Heavy rain overnight almost breached top of pool. Did a drain to lower back to normal level. Rain lowered the chems but all are within normal, some on the low end. Still need to bring calcium down so will start a drain and fill schedule. Once calcium lowered I will adjust the salt. Temps low enough the SWag does not work efficiently. May just turn off for now and hand treat with chlorine.

Finally Chlorine and Alkalinity are back within acceptable ranges. Swim my bugs are gone. Still upset about scale build up on over flow. In a month pool guy destroyed all my efforts to keep it clean. Can’t get to it until after holidays. Bummer. Calcium is getting high so maybe will do a reverse osmosis in the spring or start working on a drain and fill. Either way it will be expensive and/or time consuming.

Came back from 5 weeks gone and the pool chems were all messed up. Calcium went up 75ppm. Chlorine went way up and TA is way up. Treated with 6 cups of acid and set to aerate via spillover. After I get TA under control and chlorine in check I will retest CYA to see if I need to adjust. Will have to see about water replacement for the calcium. May just redo reverse osmosis. Will cancel pool service at end of year. Just not worth the money.

CYA is the only thing that tested lower after the heavy rain earlier this week. Will wait to to increase since it is just on the low end of target range. The PH rose from 7.1-7.86 in 5 days. I do run the pump 24/7 and run the SWG twice in a day for total of 6 hours
