If the builder is going to charge you an additional amount for the variable speed pump then it may be worth it for you to just buy it outright on Amazon and keep the single speed for a backup.

I get by fine with just one pump. I can change the circulation quite a bit just by changing the angles on my return jets and I only have three. I'd add a few more returns before adding a pump.

Is there a reason why you don't want to go with a SWG? With your size pool you'll be blowing through chlorine (at least 3 gal per day I'd guess) so you'd easily pay for a SWG in just one season.

I needed close to two gallons a day to keep sanitary during the hot months. I took the plunge and bought a SWG.......zero regrets.

There is a big learning curve up front but once it clicks for you then it should be a piece of cake. I am the poster boy for procrastinating and lounging and I was able to get the hang of it.
