Thank you both! I decided to just vacuum to waste since I do have one darker area. I think it's where the crappy winter cover leaked icky stuff through. It's in the area where my pump would sink down slightly and would gather the cover crud. It's either that or a small algae patch, I'm not sure...

Thank you all SO much. I was thinking about putting down rock and I'm very worried about grass. I live very much in the country in Tennessee and I'm terrified grass is going to grow through the sand layer into the liner. I am putting up a deck and we're still raking dirt and rock and waiting...
