    Going back to salt

I added 4 lbs of baking soda yesterday to get alkalinity up. Aiming for 80. Am going with Circupool 40. I do have a waterfall, maybe the reason for Ph running high, also have been using bleach for chlorine, so I guess that doesn’t help. I was really bad about upkeep last year, and am...

    Going back to salt

Have been reading about pool chemistry for salt water pools, and have a couple of questions. First, here are my test results: 18000 gallons plaster pool in Memphis. FC: 4.0 CC: 0.04 Ph: 7.6 Alk: 40 Calc: 200 CYa: 20 Just kinda want to know why recommended CYA is so high? 80? To keep...

Brand New Pool with some black marks appearing

It's hard to tell, but they kind of look like what I'm dealing with. Sorry, if I'm no help, but I will definitely keep an eye on this thread to see if you find a solution.

Algae is gone, but seeds staining my pool

I hope you can see from this. I will try a trichlor puck, but I have to go and get one. Again, I appreciate all the help. Since there are only a few weeks left in the swim season here, I think I will wait until the water gets too cold to swim and hit it with a bunch of chlorine then...

Algae is gone, but seeds staining my pool

Thanks for all the relpies! Try to answer some of the questions. Yes, I see the seeds. Actually, they look more like stamen from lily-like plants. When I pick one up from the bottom of the pool they just crumble and leave nothing but the stem. I have searched my back yard for anything that...

Algae is gone, but seeds staining my pool

I have been using the troublefreepool method for about a month and a half now, and have virtually eliminated the black algae problem I have had for the last four years. Of course, my pool looks almost as good as it did when it was first built. Well, I should say, looked as good until seeds, I...

Help: I think my pool has cancer The dreaded Black Algae.

I'm no expert either, maybe you should vacuum and clean your filter?

    Why fc so high?

I guess you didn't understand my question...There is no manufacture date on the bottle, only a best before date. I only thought someone might know the answer, but I guess I could try to contact the manufacturer.

    Black algae, and Leslie's

My pool is 6 yrs old, ~16,000 gal, white plaster. When we had it installed we went for the SWG. No problems whatsoever the first 2 seasons. CYA 0 and fc between .5-1.5ppm. Got black algae bloom season 3 (pool was 2 yrs. old). Put 5lbs of 99% diclor and brushed like crazy, and it went away...

    Why fc so high?

Thanks for all the great responses! I posted my problem in another thread, so I wont repost it here, and I need to get to the store to get more bleach. One more quick question if anyone knows. The Kroger 9% bleach I buy has a best before date. Any ideas on the difference between the...

    Why fc so high?

Ok, what is the best way to test cya? I have taylor 2005 test kit, and tested twice this morning. My average was 40 (45+35)/2. When I went to Leslie's they said it was 60. Went to another pool place to have it tested earlier in the spring and it was 57. Have added about 10lbs of 65% dichlor...
