Almost passed OCLT but water is still cloudy

Thanks for all of the advice! I will try to be a little more patient and will continue the SLAM. I just wanted to make sure the low TA wasn't causing the cloudiness or hindering my progress since I've never had low TA like this before when doing a SLAM. I've also never had one that has taken...

Almost passed OCLT but water is still cloudy

We are on day 5 of a SLAM. We lost no chlorine overnight and CC is .5, but water is cloudy. I assume this means that we need to continue the SLAM. We had the same test results yesterday morning as well, and the water is just as cloudy as it was yesterday even though I've been keeping the pool...

Possible PH goof during a SLAM

I started a SLAM on Thursday. It rained non-stop for 12 hours during the SLAM on Friday and I didn't go out and test or add any chlorine during that time. I went out an hour after it stopped raining and tested the PH since I was worried that the rain increased it. It said that it was 8.0 so...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

Thanks again for the advice. When I plugged soda ash into the calculator on the bottom, it says 2 pounds will raise PH by .37 to 7.27 and raise TA by 12 to 42. I know this is a bit more than the calculator on top recommends but it gets PH to the 7.2 goal and increases TA at the same time...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

Thanks so much for the advice, Richard. I took a sample to a pool store today and I had the manager test the PH and TA since I don't have any TA reagents. They use a Taylor test kit there and the manager seems to know what he is doing. He said that TA is 30, and PH is probably closer to 6.8...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

Before adding the acid, PH was 8.0. A pool store that uses a Taylor test told me that our TA was 70. (I had to rely on the pool store for the TA test only because my TA chemicals were all expired and over a year old and I couldn't wait to SLAM). We added Jasco Green muriatic acid which is...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

We have a gas heater but we never use it. I don't know if we have a heater bypass. Pointing the returns upwards is the only thing on that list that we could easily do to raise the PH. I'm not that concerned about damaging the heater since we never use it but I'm very concerned about damaging...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

If the PH is less than 7.0, would it still be fine to start the SLAM? After plugging in the amount of muriatic acid we added into a calculator, I'm concerned that PH might actually be lower than 7.0. The vial only goes down to 7.0 and the solution is yellow. Is there anyway to find out what...

PH is 7.0 - Do I need to increase it before a SLAM?

PH was 8.0 at opening. We must have added too much muriatic acid to the pool because it appears to be 7.0 now or possibly lower. The solution is yellow. I ran out of one of the TA solutions so I'm not sure what the TA is. Can I proceed with the SLAM tonight since chlorine will increase PH...

Doing a SLAM when CYA and CC are both zero

We opened up our mesh-covered pool yesterday. The water is so green that you can't see the bottom. I have a feeling that there is a lot of leaf debris on the bottom since our pool is surrounded by trees but I was afraid to vacuum since I couldn't see what I was doing. I was getting ready to...

    water chemistry before closing

Water is clear but has some crumpled up leaf debris in it. I plan on vacuuming before adding the polyquat. Looks like TA is around 70 or 80 but the chemicals have expired so I can't be sure this is accurate. PH is currently around 7.8 and I'm pretty sure this is accurate since I got a brand...

    water chemistry before closing

A pool service is closing my pool tomorrow morning. I went to a pool store yesterday to pick up some polyquat and I let them test my water while I was there. According to both of our tests, FC is 10, CC is .5, PH is 7.8, CYA is 50, and calcium is 250. Pool store says that phosphates are 200...

preventing algae when closing with a mesh cover before water temperature is below 60 degrees

My pool closing is scheduled for Friday. Water temperature is 65 degrees, which is higher than it usually is this time of year. Unfortunately, I can't change the closing date so I need to know what I can do to prevent algae from developing before the water temperature gets colder. I assume...

    fiberglass pool walls are chalking

When I rub my hands along the walls of my fiberglass pool, I get a chalky white substance on my hands. This has been happening all season but it seems to be worse lately. I called a fiberglass pool pro about it and he said it is a common problem with older fiberglass pools like mine, and it is...
