    AA and raising PH/Chlorine

I’ve had trouble in the past with manganese precipitates causing the pool to look filthy. I got a special filter called a slime bag that I attached to the water return (for my setup it was easiest to attach it to our Polaris pressure-side cleaner’s return hose). It cleared the pool right away...

First numbers with new kit, and boy are they WEIRD!

I’m not sure there is such a thing in this neck of the woods? There are metals in our ground water because there are metals in the bedrock is my understanding?

    Question about return lines please

I want to use my pool pump to drain if at all possible because it’s drain is plumbed out to the storm sewer in the street. It discharges into the gutter, then runs into a drain maybe 10ft away. I know there Are ordinances regarding exactly how my city allows residents to drain pools. When...

    Question about return lines please

I managed to get the deep side return valve off last night using a plumbers wrench, so proud of myself! Lol

First numbers with new kit, and boy are they WEIRD!

You know what will happen next after this large of a water exchange? I’m going to get a metal precipitate forming. I owned a house with a pool just 3 miles from this house, and the first fill of that pool turned black with an iron or manganese ppt. I’m tempted to order something so that I have...

    Question about return lines please

I need to do some partial water changes to correct a high CYA level. I’ve owned above ground pools in the past, but this pool is my first in ground. I have 3 return lines. One for the main drain, one for the shallow side skimmer, and one for the deep end skimmer. The deep side skimmer valve is...

First numbers with new kit, and boy are they WEIRD!

I have a second set of numbers now. I carefully wiped to bottle tips to discharge shipping related static energy that might affect drop size, and performed the CYA test with a 1:1 dilution. pH (meter) 7.3 FC 18 CC 1.5 TC 19.5 CH 450 TA 100 CYA read right at the 100 mark, so that means it’s...

First numbers with new kit, and boy are they WEIRD!

I did think the drops seemed very small! I will try wiping the tips as suggested. And I will read up on water exchange. It’s probably similar to the water exchanges I do on my fish tank, but much larger scale!

First numbers with new kit, and boy are they WEIRD!

I opened about a month ago with the worst algae bloom I’ve ever dealt with, and I have never gotten the water totally clear yet. I started to suspect my results from my 3 year old test kit could not be trusted, So I ordered a new one and it arrived today. Here are my first numbers with it: pH...

Hazy water and CYA question please?

Hi everyone! I am an experienced pool owner who has used the BBB method for many years. I moved nearly 3 years ago to a house with an in ground pool (my first inground!) Since my new pool is substantially bigger (18 x 38- 35,000 gallons) than the previous 24 ft above grounds I’ve owned, I made a...

FC at zero but all others spot on

I'm guessing she is standing on the edge of a green, smelly abyss that is going to bloom out any day if her reported numbers are correct...

FC at zero but all others spot on

Are you using a quality test kit? What does your CC read out at? Remember TC=FC+CC. So if TC is the concentration of the chlorine in the pool at the theoretical moment the chlorine is added, and if your Free Chlorine is 0, then your combined chloramines should be high. Its never desirable to...

FC at zero but all others spot on

Somehow 2 quarts of 6% household bleach every 3 or 4 days doesn't seem like enough in a pool that size. When I had a 24 foot round AGP I could easily add a gallon of bleach each night if the kids had been swimming all day. In general, if the tests say you have no chlorine, you have none and need...

    Raypack Heater won't light

@JamesW I think you are right. I do have eyeballs that are pointed downwards right now and are fully open, and I backwashed the filter. The heater popped right on once I restarted the pump after the backwash. So is this heater just temperamental? Or is this a sign that it needs some adjustments...

    Raypack Heater won't light

OMG, it finally lit!!! My pump is on a timer, 12 hours running, and 12 hours off. It starts at noon each day and turns off at midnight. Since I left the heater "on" with the pilot lit, I went out after midnight and threw the switch to keep water running through the heater. When the water pushed...
