    safety ladder isn't

Just as with firearms, the primary safety is between your ears. If left alone long enough, prisoners probably did get out of Alcatraz. I recall a video where a 4 year old boy climbed on top of his 3 year old brother, to get the fridge door open and grab a treat. They teamed up and made it...

Can you avoid algae blooms and having to shock your pool?

Do yourself a favor and forget about algae. MANY years ago, I was gas attendant. I recall a woman, who looked to be in her 90s, bringing her car in because the battery kept dying. The tech spent a fair amount of time checking the battery, alternator, then for electrical draw. I was looking...

First time closing with heater and hard plumbing

Thanks. Critters is why I'm hesitant to leave the drain plugs out. I can just see a load of ants moving into the filter. Fact is, the guys who installed the liner think ants might have caused the tear, but burrowing out the sand underneath the edge of the pool. We're supposed to have a mild...

Help a newb to close his pool and save a marriage

Haha...I just told my wife that next year I want a pool shop to close our pool. I'm sure I'll regain my sanity in the off season and close it next year as well. We just have a lot going on right now..all good stuff, but a lot.

First time closing with heater and hard plumbing

Just a few quick questions: 1 - I drained the pool, removed the hose from the skimmer, then disconnect the return pipe, at the base of the pool where the elbow is. Should I: A- remove the O'ring and store for the winter? B - if I remove the o'ring, or not, should I leave the pipe...

    Winter pool cover in-pool stand/support

We inflate nearly every pool float we have and toss them in the pool. Then I pull the mesh cover tight as I can and wait for Spring. I'll blow some leaves off during fall, as necessary, but the water is darn clear when I open in the Spring.

Brand new liner pull. Anything I can do?

That sounds right. But it's only about a foot long.

Brand new liner pull. Anything I can do?

Not really. If you run your foot along he floor, you can feel a raised portion of the liner. If you were to dive down, you could pinch the liner between your fingers and pull it up "theoretically".

Brand new liner pull. Anything I can do?

We just had our liner replaced and I notice the vacuum tips. I only saw it once, but it got my attention. I finally went into the pool and noticed the bottom wasn't as flat as I'd prefer. Turns out, when I went to the exact spot where the vacuum tipped, I notice a pull in the liner. It's...

Recommend wrench and lube for the union and rings

I have the big blues as well and after the pool professionals cranked down on that union, I feel I'll have bigger blues come winterizing time :(

Recommend wrench and lube for the union and rings

I hear you and I won't be using a wrench on those. What about the union on the pipe? My one union rests on the ground, so I don't see hand tightening cutting it there. I'd have to get on that, easy, but still I think I'll have to use a wrench on that.

Pool Pump Install - Electrician or Pool Company?

Gotcha. Do they typically draw more than 12 AMPs? Obviously on low speed, probably not. Just curious.

Pool Pump Install - Electrician or Pool Company?

I'm confused. If he's replacing a pump, isn't it plug n' play? All the wiring is in. I light upgrade to a variable speed pump, does that require additional electric?

Recommend wrench and lube for the union and rings

We had a Raypak heater installed. The return leaked a bit, so the guy came back. He used a metal oil filter wrench on the unions. Scraped them up a bit, which I HATE. Some folks here have suggested strap wrenches and other large channel locks. I have a large set of channel locks, which will...

Hayward SP1091WM, did I get the correct basket?

Thanks Kimkats. I've done a search, but it's so hard to see detail. I use a sock, so that gets in the way if where the gaps might be. I'll have to line it up, without the sock. BTW, I have two, new, spare round baskets that also seem to fit, so I'm good. Just agitated at this point... Side...
