Keeping Raccoons Away from my Pool

I have been waiting for a replacement liner and was told I needed to remove my deck boards for a replacement install. A couple of weeks ago I was given the heads up to remove the deck boards, so I had to remove my winter cover. To my horror, there were 6 dead raccoons in the pool and the...

    Liner Leaking?

Thank you for the reply. It was my understanding the pool water helps to maintain the integrity of the metal pool sides but it sounds like that really isn't the case. I will have a new liner installed in the spring and keep an eye on the sides thru the winter.

    Liner Leaking?

I closed my pool several weeks ago and placed the winter cover and leaf net on it. I decided to get one more year out of my "solid" cover for another season even though I knew some moisture was coming through from the pool water. Last week I noticed the cover seemed lower than it should have...

    Baquacil Side Discussion

I was a die hard Baqa user for 10 years but the last 5 years, I was fighting water mold and cloudy water and spending tons of $$ trying to get back to a clear pool. I decided when I closed my pool in 2016 I was converting to chlorine the next spring (2017) when Baqa levels would be at their...

    So what is a Bacquacil?

I just converted away from Bacquacil this year (thanks to this site) and it was well worth the extra work. When I purchased my pool in 2007 someone suggested I use Bacquacil instead of chlorine and little did I know what would be forthcoming. The reasons I decided to convert to chlorine: 1)...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

OK - my conversion, from start to finish started on 6/9/17 with testing and adjusting my pH and ended by passing the OCLT on 6/24. I used the 8.25% bleach from Sam's Club and went through 93 bottles. I had added CDX for the past five years so mine seemed to take a little longer than other...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

I always dread changing the sand because it is such dirty/heavy work but I kept telling myself this is the last time I should have to do this for a long long time. I managed to get everything hooked back up without any leaks and hung a sock with CYA over the inlet. I decided to start with 2/3...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

Today I change out my sand and then will start adding CYA to get to 30 while keeping my FC at 15 ppm. I have read on the site where CYA can take a week to get to that level? The final part being I have to test CC to be<=.5 two days in a row? If it is correct that I will have to wait a week to...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

Finally - I passed my first OCLT with zero loss of FC overnight! Hopefully I will be changing out my sand tomorrow morning and moving on to pool chemistry. That will put me from start to finish at exactly 3 weeks, converting a CDX pool. I didn't end up doing a deep cleaning of my filter...

    Deep Cleaning Filter

Thank you for the suggestions on the dreadful job of changing out the sand. I never thought about using a wheel barrow to help move the heavy sand filled vacuum around. I haven't reached the OCLT overnight test yet so it was suggested I try deep cleaning the filter to help meet the test...

    Deep Cleaning Filter

I am nearing the end of my baquacil conversion and it was suggested I deep clean my filter to help get to the end of the process. I watched the video on deep cleaning a filter on this site and read several threads, but I am still a little unclear on the precautions to take. Someone mentioned...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

Thanks for the suggestion on deep cleaning my filter and the reassurance on getting to the next stage of my conversion. I have been reading all of the TFP posts about deep cleaning and it seems like something I could do. I can detach the filter hoses from the pump and pool heater, then do the...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

I know I don't have the option of giving up, but I am getting discouraged in passing the OCLT. My pool has been crystal clear (actually I don't recall seeing it this clear in the past several years.) I sweep and vacuum during the day, change out my skimmer sock, and backwash my filter around...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

Today my pool is sparkling clear so I am hoping I will be passing the overnight 15ppm shortly and will be able to switch my sand and follow the remaining steps for balancing my chemicals. I did have my doubts I would ever see clear water again. My question is about my pool steps. I was able...

Spring 2017 - Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine!

Husky 25- I was testing/dosing every day starting around 5:30P when the sun was off of the pool and by that point FC0. I tested every hour and the highest I could get it was FC6, by the time it was getting dark. Last night I decided to test/dose every half hour and my last one was FC10...
