    A BIG thank you!

Hi guys! I haven't posted for a while, but I wonted to stop by and give a big thank you to everyone who has shard their knowledge on this board. Thanks to TFP, I have been algae-free and sparkling clear all summer long! I bought the TFP kit at the beginning of the season, and I have made it a...

Thoughts on foam padding/failing pool floor?

We have been having some problems with the concrete bottom of our 20K inground pool. The pool was constructed in the mid 1980s, with a concrete floor. For the most part, the floor is in decent condition, but I have been getting some rough spots on the floor. We had a liner installed five seasons...

I know I have some water issues; what next?

I'm finally there! Just want to give an update as to what has happened. In the last few days, I messed with Baking Soda and later Borax to get my PH and TA within proper range. PH is at 7.3, and TA is at 100. The only real issue is that I still have a high CYA (somewhere between 80-100...

I know I have some water issues; what next?

I was dealing with a small algae issue this past week (little bits of green were forming on the cove area, between the walls and floor), and I think I am doing OK on that. I am back to clear blue water with no new algae growth in at least four days. I just got a TFP kit yesterday, and took some...

    Best places to buy bleach

As I am slowly converting to the BBB method, I was out the other night getting some bleach. I was curious to see where all of you are getting the best deals on bleach out there. Because I was in a rush to get some bleach in my pool, I ran to the closest store, Target, and found the 1.42 gal...

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

Tiny update: No new algae growth today! I had the chlorine up and brushed the remaining bits last night, and when I came home tonight, I didn't find any new growth! Yay! Dave, I also got your message about the kit and FedEx issue. No worries! It will get here when it gets here. :-D I'll have...

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

Thanks Kurt! Good news is that we got a new liner this season (thus new water!), so I only have about 8 weeks of using pucks and dry shock. So the CYA hopefully shouldn't be all that high. (I hope!) Even better news is I ordered a TFP kit last night, so I will be able to accurately test all of...

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

Thanks so much Dave! I just ordered the kit. In the meantime, I'll get my hands on some bleach and try the alternate testing method you gave. Then I can start to tackle the PH and Alk! I'll post again later with some results.

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

Oops ... nevermind, I found the calc! Looks like I'm going to need roughly 5 gallons to get it up to 20ppm. (That's based on having a reading of at least 5ppm right now.)

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

Thanks for the responses. About two weeks ago, I had the CYA tested at the pool shop since I don't have my own method of testing for it. At the time it was 30. I posted that, because it was the last known result I had available. I will go tomorrow and have it tested again. As for the Cl, yes...

Another newbie with a pool pic!

Yes, we got the vinyl fence two years ago. The lights on top are low voltage. We first had six installed around the area where the patio table is. Then last summer, my husband and I put in six more ourselves around the rest of the fence. It lights it up quite nice at night time! The pool was...

Getting bits of algae growth on bottom

We're entering our sixth year of pool ownership, and I really think I'm learning something new each year. However, I still have quite a hard time with algae and was wondering what I was doing wrong. Right now our pool is clear blue, but there is some slight algae growth on the cove (the part...

Another newbie with a pool pic!

Hi all! I have just loved seeing the pictures of everyone's pools! Here's mine -- It's 20K, with a brand new vinyl liner. The depth is about 4.5 feet all the way across. It makes for some great volleyball games! I look forward to posting more here and have appreciated reading all of your posts, too.
