Lowering water level AFTER adding winterizing chems?

It's not really mainly a question of cost savings - I just want as much of the chems to be in the water all winter as possible, otherwise seems like a bit of a waste. I think it'd be much more than 4" total... the jets are fairly low on the wall. I do usually lower the water level pretty low...

Lowering water level AFTER adding winterizing chems?

Hi all, On my pool closing cheat sheet, I wrote down to lower the water level below the return jets after adding liquid chlorine and polyquat 60, but now that I think about it, that sounds like a bad idea because I'm basically dumping out chemicals I just bought... I have one skimmer basket on...

Getting started! Owner Build in SoCal

I stumbled upon this thread sorta on accident after logging in one day and I just gotta say, holy cow, your pool is gonna look amazing!

    Liquid Chlorine storage

There is, but I'd rather settle with 11% chlorine than lug a 5 gallon jug up and down out of my basement or carry it across my house from my garage. (The pool is on the opposite side of the house as the garage.) :) I usually dump about 3 quarts a day into the pool when it's super sunny out and...

    Liquid Chlorine storage

Interesting, thanks for the link! Other than degrading, is it any more dangerous when stored in a deck box in the sun all day vs. a deck box in the shade? Thanks!

    Liquid Chlorine storage

I am in a similar situation with the OP but I have one of those big brown plastic deck boxes by our fence around the pool and it's actually in the sun most of the day. I've been getting the big blue 5 gal. jugs of Superchlor from my local Ace Hardware. You're not supposed to store liquid...

Stabilizer / CYA Sock Method Seems Way Too Slow - Other Options?

I just checked it today and the CYA is 40. If I'm super strict on being able to see the black dot, mayyybe it could get closer to 30, but I'm almost positive it's 40. I'll recheck the math tomorrow morning!

Stabilizer / CYA Sock Method Seems Way Too Slow - Other Options?

Alright thanks everyone! I'll squeeze out the rest of it and use a nylon sock next time. I've kinda been keeping the FC at 10 anyway. But I haven't mentally been in full-on SLAM mode. :D I'm using hth stabilizer and in my past experience the actual amount I got out of the sock was about double...

Stabilizer / CYA Sock Method Seems Way Too Slow - Other Options?

Hi all, so I've had my ~2 lbs. of stabilizer granules-filled sock in the skimmer basket since Saturday evening and I've been giving it a good squeeze maybe 2 or 3 times a day but it's been at 20 CYA this whole time. It seems the only way the stabilizer actually comes out of the sock is when I...

Second Ever Pool Opening, Green Monster This Time Around :(

Got it, thanks @mknauss! I re-checked when my FC was below 10 and it's exactly 7.2 now! Woo.

Second Ever Pool Opening, Green Monster This Time Around :(

Weird, does adding CYA increase the pH? I only had about 0.25 lbs of slow-n-lo left, which I figured wouldn't do much... but I added that at like 6:30, then put the CYA sock in around 6:45 and I just checked my pH at like 8:15 and it's 8.2+! Do I have to wait for all of the CYA to dissolve...

Got it, thanks! FC is 12.5, CYA sock away! 👍

Second Ever Pool Opening, Green Monster This Time Around :(

Thanks guys! I can't remember what I had the CYA at when I closed, but I think it was pretty low (for me) likely around 40. I drained the water to about 8" below the return jets, so maybe thats why I lost the CYA, we've had a lot of rain the past month or more, so it's been gettin a lot of new...

Second Ever Pool Opening, Green Monster This Time Around :(

Hey all, So I this is my first time closing AND opening in succession... 2 autumns ago I had a pool store close the pool, then in Spring I opened it to see fairly decent/clear water! I closed the pool myself last fall (withOUT polyquat) and this Spring is... a different story! (Noooooo!)...
