Advice on 20 year old pump replacement

Does HP matter? It seems most variable speed pumps are bigger than the 1.5 hp that I have. Is there a certain size I should shoot for? Is the Pentair pump better than the Hayward? An SWG would be nice, but I'm worried about the corrosion of the surrounding concrete and the poles for the slide.

Advice on 20 year old pump replacement

I have an old Hayward 1.5 hp pump and the motor is making loud noises. Shaft is spinning, and I've replaced the impeller previously. I've got flex PVC piping that has small leaks in a couple of places, and the hard piping is all assembled so there's no room to cut it and add a coupler when...

    Wasps, soap, salt, questions......

To clarify, my goal isn't to add salt or soap to the pool, it's just a byproduct of the wasp thing. Just making sure I'm not going to mess anything up. Also, I'm out in the country. There's no follow to the close by nest and take care of it. They come from all directions and distances...

    Wasps, soap, salt, questions......

So we've had some wasp issues this summer. We're out in the sticks so they come from quite a distance sometimes. Not a nest close by. I've been trying different ways to reduce the ones that come to the pool. Bucket of diesel didn't do much. Caught one. Same for a home made trap. Spray...

pH Meter / Can't Read Red!!!

I just went through this same situation. Yes I have that exact meter from TFT test kits. Yes you have to use distilled water and the powder to calibrate it, but yes it does work well. I've only had it a few weeks, and had to calibrate it to start with, but random tests on the distilled water...

    TF100 storage

Fine. My house is 0.2 miles away from the pool. A bit of a pain to come home and test, then go back and add chemicals. Pool at the daughters house. She's pregnant (and miserable) and son in law works swing shift so I can't just barge in for chemicals when it's convenient for me to test. I...

    TF100 storage

I got my TF100 kit and saw where it said not to store outdoors. In the house isn't convenient (don't ask). So the options are to store it inside a metal building (40'x60'), or throw it in the fridge. Metal building will be at ambient temps (100 in Texas on a regular basis), but in the shade...

    TA Drop PH Drop

How much did your TA drop? For me, once water temps got above 85°, my high TA readings caused all sorts of PH problems and cloudy water. I had to add acid and aerate to get TA back down and ph leveled out and the water is clear again. I started with TA of 460.

Pool testing for the color impaired

I've looked at that. Wanted to be sure it worked well before I wasted the money on it. There's a review on Amazon that says accuracy is off compared to a Taylor DPD kit. Most reviews seem positive though.

Pool testing for the color impaired

Plaster pool. I"ll update my sig. I didn't like that video at all. Couldn't see the difference in either side. Top 3 boxes on each side are the exact same color, with the 4th getting real close. Couldn't match the liquid to anything (technically, I could match the liquid to almost...

Pool testing for the color impaired

Any experience with that one? I've been looking online at others. Most seem to have mixed reviews. I'm hoping between something like that and the TF100 kit I can make this work.

Pool testing for the color impaired

Thank you. Yes, I can see the color change in the chlorine test. PH is still a problem though. I haven't seen a video on the TF kit, but did watch a video on the Taylor kit for PH and I'm going to have trouble there. I don't remember the test we tried last year that it seemed like it took...

Pool testing for the color impaired

That was the idea from the beginning, but it doesn't seem to work out that way. Son in law will do it about once a week, the day before their kids want to swim, then just start dumping chemicals in. Daughter doesn't, or can't see the difference in anything but chlorine. That's all she ever...

Pool testing for the color impaired

No suggestions on how to test the water for the color impaired?

Pool testing for the color impaired

Thanks. Calcium adds hardness, right? We have extremely soft well water, so adding some hardness won't hurt as long as it's kept in check I assume.
