I live in California, and although it can be rainy in the winter where I live, it does not freeze. So my pool stays uncovered during the winter.

No. Just 5 months. I don’t remove it for the winter. But I do bring the generation down to zero when the temperature is low enough. And with the rain the salt level goes down I the winter.

I got about 3 years out of it. I replaced it last year with the stock cell. On season 2 with that now.

Well, I gotcha. I have no idea regarding the anode situation as I don‘t have that. My salt pool is 15 years old and no corrosion either.

I run mine at 2000 ppm. I would bet a sacrificial anode would help.

OK, sadness…my cheap salt cell failed! It was throwing the 121 code and then stopped making chlorine. It is possible I killed it with over aggressive acid bath, but there you have it. I broke down and bought a Jandy at the higher price. All is well now. Bummer.
