    New stain on pool liner

No oak trees. I know nothing about iron in the water, but will get some ascorbic acid. Thanks again.

    New stain on pool liner

No fertilizer, but good thought. I did use lime on the lawn 2 days ago, so the timing fits. But it was deployed on the opposite side of the pool... Could lime - CaO - do this?

Uh, the jpeg doesn't seem to attach. Do I need to use a different file format? I tried a PNG, but it was too large for the server to handle.

    New stain on pool liner

Hello everyone. A new problem, noticed only today after several days of leaving the solar cover off. 20 or more of these black, comet-shaped marks, ranging from an inch to 4-5 inches in size, in one corner of the poll's shallow end. They do not vacuum off, and they do not brush away! Please...

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Many good points in that article, but most timely is that I should wait until the pool water is below 60°F. Thanks again, mknauss.

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Ah, Fall. The solar panels by mid-August no longer contribute to the pool temperature, which has now been stuck at 19°C (66°F) for several days. Brrr... The pool water has remained largely clear recently. There was a spate of cool and/or rainy days in late August when the solar cover was not...

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

You folks are helpful, and a re-read of my last note makes me appear less than appreciative. Sorry if the tone seemed negative; it wasn't intended that way. I do get confused easily, and disheartened when all my efforts seem futile. I decided that Recirculate mode means circulate without...

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Tivo: yes, I do know the 3 rules for stopping the SLAM. I won't bore you with details as to why I stopped the SLAM while the water was still cloudy. I wasn't aware of the concept that cloudiness breeds algae growth. JoyfulNoise, the idea of wasting pool water is abhorrent to me, and yet I do...

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Tivo, the SLAM has already done its job, insofar as the green deposits are concerned. Since the fiber supplement for my constipated filter isn't due for a week, I guess I will be SLAMming for another week anyway!

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Quandary: whether it makes sense to stop the pump for even a few hours in the midst of a SLAM. I did stop it overnight, and there was some settling. I vacuumed to waste. Didn't seem to make much difference. I suppose I would need to do this repeatedly.

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Thanks both of you, for the edification! I could not fathom why algae would occur, when FC is 7 or higher. The "Fiber Magic Filter Aid" is due in a week. Hopefully that's the answer to our woes.

    The wrong diatomaceous earth

Is there a connection between the unresolved cloudiness issue and the recurring algae? It seems the TFP routines were working well for us, until I screwed up by adding the wrong DE to the sand filter. SLAM x3 in the span of a month seems like it should have been unnecessary.
