Just wondering about tile on steps. Is recommended for safety or is it mostly for aesthetics? My hubby thinks we need it for safety..

We are going through a pool renovation and have chosen Slate Blue Pebble Sheen. We have Oklahoma Chocolate flagstone and have chosen a coral brown ceramic tile. I am a little worried about the brown accent tiles on the sun shelf and step outs...really does not “match” the Pebble Sheen we have...
