NEW Blue Surf Pebble Sheen color

Are the luminous beads available in both the smaller pebblesheen sizes and the larger standard pebbletec size? That wasn't clear from what I found online. And the beads are a larger cost bump than the shimmering sea right?

Yes, the beads can be added to pebble sheen... If the PB charges more, you can always ask the guys who apply the finish, if they have some that they can spread! May work out cheaper...

We really love the blue surf finish... Please post pics when your's is done..

May the (smurf) tribe increase!

The reason you can tell from their website it is available on any color is they have examples on there of blue granite/white diamonds/aqua blue which are all Pebble Sheen. Plus there is a Tahoe Blue example which is Pebble Tec (the bigger pebble). We are adding it to our Blue Surf pool color for extra pop.

Blue blend

out of curiousity, what was it that drove your decision to go with the beads as opposed to the shells? When I talked to the local applicator, they said that both additives offer a similar effect, but the shimmering sea creates a more dramatic sparkle than the beads. And the beads are a fair amount more expensive. They also said that neither one changed the feel of the finish much. So I wasn't sure why one would choose the beads over the shells..... Am I missing something?

A couple reasons actually.

1. Spool's finish which I am in love with. His has glass beads and to me I was equating it with that.
2. When I asked how much my PB decided to give them to me for free because of the pain I have been through with my pool build. I think they want me to be happy because they want their business to be successful. I think if I had to pay the $1500 for the upgrade I probably wouldn't have done it.

Another thing to think about is the shimmering sea is a natural product and I have read that it can lose its shimmer over time. Pebble tec even has statements to that effect on its promotional material for the shimmering sea. I think some have said that it is ok if you keep your water chemistry in check. I really don't know and that is the only thing that would have steered me away from the shimmering sea.

That all makes sense. It it were free I'd probably jump on it too. Our quote for adding glass beads to the sheen was $2k-$4k depending on how much they added. (and pure beadcrete was apparently "a lot more" so I didn't even get a number). Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) our renovation has been relatively smooth so far, so I don't think we'll get any discounts... I may take a trip down to the applicator's showroom with the wife next week and take a look - but I suspect we'll just go with the shells (only ~$500). Too many other budget adders lately - we're not anxious for another big-ticket add-on at this point.....

I can completely understand not wanting to spend any more money! The bead crete isn't my thing. To me it is over the top and frankly I don't think my house justifies the expense. Plus I kind of like the look of the pebble mixed with the glass instead of all glass. I have heard in the neighborhood of $12k to $14k to upgrade from Pebble Sheen to Bead Crete. My pool is much smaller than yours so I can understand your quote for the cost being above mine. I don't think that is that far out of range for the size of your pool. There is someone on the board (I can't find their thread right now) that got the Tahoe Blue color with Luminous added. I have to say it looks much better in person than it does online. I can say that just from seeing the samples.

By the way, if anyone is feeling super-crazy, you can add *both* beads and shells to the tec/sheen. When I was talking to the applicator they mentioned that they had just finished a pool that had both that I could look at. And as it turns out it's the owner's pool ... so I'm sure that one heckuva nice finish ... :)
