Intellicenter - Freeze protection says it is on, but pump speed is 0

Hello -

I have a mystery. I have a intellicenter running two separate systems for pool and spa. When temp drops, both say that they are on freeze protection and the green light is on for both pumps on the app, but the spa pump flow is 0. I went and checked this morning, and the pump is not on. I am worried that my pool builder somehow set my pump speed to 0 for freeze protection last year because we had some issues before we separated the systems and freeze protection was causing my spa to drain into the pool with the shared system. Now that they are separate, I want to make sure that the spa pump is actually moving the water during freeze protection mode. Does anyone know how to adjust the pump speed while in freeze protection mode? I have looked everywhere in the app settings and configuration and can't find anything that helps me adjust settings for freeze protection. I emailed pentair support, but I wanted to also check here. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
 
With IntelliCenter i5PS, i8PS, or i10PS systems, freeze protection on body circuits will rotate between the bodies periodically. That means you may only have one body at a time active under freeze protection. Was the fix to replace your shared personality card (i5PS, i8PS, or i10PS) with an i10D daughter card? If not you really cannot have two body circuits active at the same time for freeze protection or otherwise.

The freeze protection speed is determined by the Pool or Spa circuit speed. Do you have a pump speed set for the Spa circuit on the pump? Also, if the PS card was not replaced there is a possibility that they simply replumbed the spa to be on a different feature/circuit. If that is the case make sure this feature/circuit has the Freeze Protect checkbox checked. Then it will use the speed setting for that feature/circuit.

Hello - we initially had an easy touch system when it was a shared system. When we decided to separate, they changed it out to the intellicenter in order to have two separate bodies of water controlled by the automation. They did get the appropriate daughter card, so they really are two systems that can run simultaneously. The pump speed for the spa pump is set as a minimum of 1700 rpm so I don't know why it isn't running at that speed while in freeze mode. Looking at the new intellicenter2 app (post update from this week), there is an option to add a circuit under the pump settings, and two of the naming options are "Freeze". I am wondering if I should add that circuit to my spa pump and set the speed at 1700rpm?

That circuit named freeze is a virtual circuit, meaning it is not controlled by anything but the internal programming of the card when it detects a freeze condition. You may use that as a speed for the pump but I suspect that you simply do not have the Freeze checkbox checked on the spa body circuit. This will be under the configuration menu on the app --> Settings --> Circuits. All circuits that should be engaged during a freeze event will have the Freeze checkbox checked.
 
Thank you, but I have confirmed that freeze protection is enabled on both the spa circuit and the pool circuit. They both say “freeze protection” when temps drop. The issue is that the spa pump indicator light is on but the pump speed says 0 and isn’t on when I check it visually.

I wonder if they just didn't get the dual system programming right. Is there by chance a Freeze Cycle Time Delay on your outdoor panel. This will be under the Settings => Advanced System Configuration => Delays menu only on the outdoor panel. It will not appear in the web or mobile app and only be shown in the outdoor display. If there is, this setting should not be available on an i10D. It's purpose is to cycle between pool and spa when there is a freeze condition using a timer between 5 and 60 minutes. It could be that it is just incorrectly alternating between these two on that setting. The firmware for all IntelliCenter models is the same so perhaps they missed this on the dual model and are still cycling the pool/spa circuits like they do on shared body systems. The single body systems simply do not have any of the spa settings and use the Hi-Temp and Lo-Temp which can be switched using this delay by setting both mode circuits to freeze-protect.

I will take a look as soon as I get home. Is that something I can just turn off if it is on?
 
Ok in the empty space there would be a Freeze Cycle Time setting that would control the alternating of the bodies. It appears the option does not exist on the i10D. The Spa Frz Override option is so that you can use the spa heater when freeze protection is active. It is kinda goofy in that it allows you to override the freeze protection for the set amount of time when you want to use the spa during a freeze condition. I still don't see why the spa circuit is not engaging the pump when freeze is active. Unless maybe you have a circuit, feature, or group named Spa that really isn't the first circuit on the list and that is what you have selected in the pump speeds.

Ok. I will see what happens tonight now that I added that freeze circuit. Fingers crossed it works.

One other question since you seem so knowledgeable- when I went out to the panel this afternoon, I noticed that the badge on my pool pump was yellow even though it was running and following a schedule. Any clue why that would be? I don’t have any actuators on that system that would cause a delay or anything and pump was obviously primed and running, so it makes no sense to me why the badge wasn’t green. Any ideas?
