just to confirm the prime speed is just the "maximum speed" in my pump settings?

I moved it down to 3000, closed the spa drain so that its just pulling from the skimmer. I also removed the top on the pump so all of the water drained (I wanted to clean the basket anyway). And turned everything back on and it seemed to do ok. Took a moment for the water to pull in from the skimmer. I was worried but it appeared to prime and then moved down to its slower running speed. I'll watch it over the next couple of days.

In the Intellicenter manual I have it shows Priming Speed. But I believe maximum speed limits the priming speed too.

For instance, I prime my pump at 2200 rpm

The Pentair rep set up this system with GPM as the editable number that controls the vs pump.

When we had the spa drain slightly open, it was 40 gpm, 320W and 1550rpm. Now when putting all of the suction to the skimmer, the pump seems to be working harder. Still at the same 40gpm but now at 390w and 1800rpm. I assume that's OK? Do I care about the increased rpm and wattage numbers?
 
changed to RPM and put it back down to ~1500. Funny that the waterfall spill over looks just the same as it did running at a much higher RPM. NOt sure why but I expected to see a little difference. I feel a little better having the pump run a little lower, of course, as long as is good flow for the SWG and filter, etc.

Heck,

One of the good, or bad things, about using RPM, is that as the filter gets dirty the flow of water will decrease.. I personally think this is a good thing. As it is a pretty good first indication of a dirty filter.

With the GPM setting, as the filter gets dirty, the flow stays the same, but the power used by the pump increases so it can maintain the flow.
