What to do when we go away for 4-5 days?

Just wondering what everyone suggests doing with their AGP when you are going away for a period of 4 or 5 days?

Do you bring your pool up to a shock level based on your cya and leave the solar cover on and cross your fingers?

Thanks

PS; I imagine you need to hire or recruit someone to maintain your chemical program for longer periods away.

I was just thinking about this very thing. On my last pool, I installed a peristaltic pump with a bleach storage tank so it was no issue at all. However on my new pool, it's all just manual and I have my CYA up to 50, using straight bleach for the chlorine. Given my CYA, would rather not introduce any more of it via pucks. This gives me yet another reason to consider SWG.

My cya is 48-49 currently, so not looking at raising it much
how are you getting that number? I think we just round up since you can't really get that precise on the test and the scale is logarithmic anyway. you can use pool math to figure out effects of adding things,

what kind of pool do you have? if vinyl you could use cal hypo tabs too.

or just take it to SLAM level and deal with it when you get back. green is not fun, but it isn't the end of the world, either. just stock up on liquid chlorine when you return.

I am using my Taylor test kit to get that CYA level.

I have a vinyl AGP liner. Sorry, but what is cal hypo?

Thanks

That should be fine for 4-5 days in Canada. Solar covers greatly reduce chemical use. I have a puck feeder on my in-ground for use when I am away longer, and the chlorine level is always on the high side when I return from 2 weeks away. I have a 2-speed pump and run it on low and keep the solar cover on when I'm away.

Can you buy pucks that do NOT have CYA????

Yes, but they are only for use in their own floating chlorinator. DON'T put them in a conventional puck feeder, or mix them with stabilized pucks.
Personally I run my stabilized puck feeder at startup until the CYA is in the standard range (mine is always zero at startup) and then turn it off unless I am going away.
Why can you not use them in a feeder? The website says the same thing, but don't understand why.

I really don't know! It would certainly be convenient to be able to use both in the same feeder i.e. switch to the unstabilized ones once your CYA is in range. Hopefully someone has more info.
