Infinity pool trough algae

So part of new pool experience has been understanding why the pool service did certain things.

At the beginning I noticed a few chlorine floaters but removed then because of the swg in the pool, and the cya was already at 80.

I also noticed a tablet sitting in the trough bottom. Again worried about the cya I didn't replace it when it dissolved.

The swg has been steady maintaining the fc around 4.5 to 5.0. But I've noticed given some time the trough has an extreme edge area that seems to have a trace amount of algae. And that happens to be where the tablet was sitting.

Is there any alternatives for chlorine to be localized in a small spot but without stabilizer ie cya?

Easy answer... I haven't. With the amount of silt/dirt at the bottom of the trough I've been exploring options to vaccum it up rather than brushing it into the filter. Brushing it up would stir up a lot of the silt/dirt on the bottom and it would eventually force it through the filter.

I tried a venturi vac with very limited success. Now looking into a self contained vac or even the vac heads possibly. But would like to hear if anyone else found themselves in the same position.

I also noticed after the post that the rpm that I was running the pump that pulls from the trough was low enough that there wasn't much spillover into the area where there is quite a bit of debri. I've changed the schedule to account for a little higher rpm that results in spillover in that area of the trough.

With a CYA of 80 I would run you FC 7, that may stop the algae starting in the trough... I would brush that area at least weekly.. The reason you have a filter is to suck up debris and get it out of your water.. What size filter do you have, I only clean mine once a year

Brushing is a key part of algae prevention. It breaks up the biofilm that forms a protective coating on algae and allows the chlorine to be effective. Brush the surface with chlorinated pool water once or twice a week and it should keep the algae away.

I don’t understand why you are reluctant to have your filter clear the dirt/silt. That is its purpose.

Good points. From looking at the piping it doesn't look like the trough/waterfall pump runs through the cartriage filter. I'm worried that brushing the silt/dirt here will circulate it into the pool first and then eventually through the filter. Hence my reluctance to just stir it up, and looking into the vac head. The vac head would at least direct most of it into the filter to be cleaned later.
