One month in and things are going great!

I am so thankful that I found TFP. Of course, it has saved me lots of money and frustration. I really am still kicking myself for relying on the pool store for my pool chemistry for the past 20 years. I am now telling everyone I know who has a pool to join us here.

I have been trying to sell my unused, unopened chemicals and haven't had much success. I was asking $400 for everything. The cost of the tub of
shock was $120 alone. I know some of this stuff contains ingredients that aren't ideal to use, but can any of it be used with the TFP program?

We all felt that way at one time. You might be able to use a couple of those product intermittently over time, but look at the labels carefully. Avoid the "blue" items for sure as they probably contain copper. The shock products might just be a form of trchlor or dichlor which could be used if your CYA isn't too high. The algaecide is questionable. Look carefully to see if it says something like Polyquat 60 (good) or if it contains copper (bad). If in doubt later, post a pic of the ingredients label and we can try to confirm for you.

No chance the pool store you got those from would give you store credit for something else like tools or liquid shock?

I bought these at the "spring sale". I highly doubt they would. Can you tell me what the problem is with copper?

Can you tell me what the problem is with copper?

Once in the water, copper levels grow to a point where eventually the pool surfaces begin to stain. Sometimes the water can change color and it can effect some people's hair color. The only way to remove copper is by changing water.

The Burnout 73 is Calcium Hypochlorite, which means you can use it if your CH isn't silly high. I use Calcium Hypochlorite at the beginning and end of the season when the water is too cold for my SWG or I need to bump up FC because, over the winter, the snow melt results in an opening CH of about 120.
