Salt cell not keeping up

My salt cell isn’t keeping up. I pulled it and cleaned it. I have it running at 1175RPMs for 12hours at 50%. I’m making adjustments but it doesn’t seem to matter. I just installed a WaterGuru to help monitor more frequently since I’m away a lot.
Also my CSI isn’t in range. Should I care?

Given the heat in southern Texas, you may have to increase cell percent quite a bit higher and/or increase pump runtime. Use liquid chlorine to quickly boost FC to the necessary number based on FC/CYA Levels.

Keeping your CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range should minimize scaling on the cell. Adjust pH, TA, CH as needed to attain a CSI in that range. Put your present numbers into PoolMath and play around with the pH, TA and CH in PoolMath to get the desired CSI - then start making the needed adjustments.

Your CYA is way too low. In your climate, you need at least 60-70 ppm.

I would suggest you run the SWCG to create 4 ppm FC. At 12hours of run time, that would be at 80%

D,

Your cell can produce about 10 ppm of FC per day when run at 100% and for 24 hours.

Running at 50% gives you 5 ppm of FC in 24 hours.. Running only 12 hours only gives you 2.5 ppm of FC.

Running a CYA below 70 will allow the sun to consume more of your FC..

You have sent your poor SWCG into battle without any ammunition.... I can see your cell waiving the white flag from here..

I recommend you give your cell a fighting chance by running it longer and/or harder and get your CYA up to at least 70 ppm.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you sir. I remember reading an article here that said salt pools should be kept on the low end for CYAs, around 30-40. I know I’m still below that and it needs to come up. Just not sure where I should land if I take that article into account. I’ll see if I can find it.

D,

It is an open loop system, so it will never be in perfect balance.. The cell has no idea what the FC level is.. It just runs at the % that you set, and for the time that you set..

You are the system's brain.. You are the one that closes the loop, by telling the cell how long to run and how much chlorine to produce.

While you can't make it perfect, you can get pretty close... That said, it is not a hands off system.. You have to continuously test to make sure your FC stays at your "Target" or higher.. Using the saltwater tab of this chart.. FC/CYA Levels

Thanks,

Jim R.
