Multiport valve leaking on top. No water coming out of returns. PSI running at 28-30. Used to run between 18-22. Changed entire top valve. Guy at store said no glue or lube is needed it’s already on the new one. Water leaking at seam of new one. Also, should the pump not run for 24 hours? Any ideas on why water isn’t going from pump to pool. Should the new port be glued in and lube be put on O ring? Sand was changed last year.
Thanks much!

What part numbers did you change?

We put a new part in the first picture. Now it leaks where the screws holding it on are. I have no clue where the water is going when I turn the pump on. It’s not going out the backwash hose or out the returns in the pool. The pump doesn’t get past priming now. The gauge shows around 50 psi when I turn on the pump. Two days ago we had a new booster pump put on. Today we used a hydro flush in the suction port of the skimmer to see if it was plugged up because we had used granular stabilizer last week and the sock came undone and it spilled in the skimmer and there was some down by the drain. Nothing changed.

It sounds like you did not properly position the top of the valve with the ports below it. The valve is not in the proper position for the selector handle setting. I would take it off and check the alignment of the port and screw holes.

Post a readable pic of the label on the filter and the label on the top of the selector.

I took a photo of it before I removed the old one and put the new one on in the exact same position. Or at least I believe it is.

Do you still have your old one?

Recently we had someone report they got the top of an MPV valve with the label 180 degrees off so the settings were off.

All the symptoms you describe say the top is oriented wrong.

Put the old and the new one side by side and compare the top and the bottom.

What part number was the Top Valve Assembly you got?

Note the alignment notch.

See if this helps...

I sure was hoping that was the problem. But nope. They are the same.

notch lines up.

It’s a T60 but I don’t see a part number on it. The place that put the pool in and service it for several years ordered it for me. Took it off and used lube when we put it back on. We spent 30 minutes flushing the line and it finally spewed out a bunch of leaves and stabilizer that didn’t dissolve. It still leaks above 2800 when I turn the pump on. At 2800 it stops leaking. I read somewhere I should Leave the pump off for 24 hours after putting a new MVP on. Is that correct?

I have never heard that and see no reason for that. You did not glue anything that needs to dry. If you installed a new MPV with glued PVC connections then it would make sense. But not for your repair.

To expand on what I think James is thinking. 50 PSI pressure, no water coming out of returns, water leaking out of valve all points to you have a blockage or closed valve in your return line. The only reason the MPV is leaking is due to the abnormaly high pressure. The water has to go someplace.

Filter pressure should never get over 30 PSI.

Forget about the valve leakage. Find the blockage or closed valve.

Here are photos of the equipment. It was blocked in the supply line earlier but we used a hose and hydro flush to dislodge some leaves and stabilizer. The skimmer started working great after that and water is coming out from the jets in the pool really well now. Do I need to cut the line to find the blockage in the return line?

The pump can't get to 50 psi.

The most it can do is about 39 psi.

Does the gauge go to 0 when the pump is off?

Is this picture with the pump on or off?

View attachment 342818
It goes to zero when off. This is when it’s running at 2600 psi.

OK, I am lost about how your problems have changed. If the water is coming out from your returns really well then what problems remain?
