Hot Springs > switch from Frog @ease to Nature 2/dichlor bleach method

@djmcphee
Thanks for the helpful post. I'm just starting out with a new Bullfrom spa myself and have the exact same questions, particularly about the FrogEase system which my spa came with.

Using the TF-100, I too am getting:
FC 0.5-1 with CC 9.0. --> We just filled the spa last week and have only used it twice...
pH started out at 8 with TA 200 --> I'm working on bringing both down gradually with acid/ventilation
CH 125

Can you elaborate on what you found out from King Technologies re: CC levels? I figured this was the issue, but would like to have a better understanding. (Also, I read that MPS can mess up the CC measurement as well, but I haven't used any.)

I guess the real question is this: Do I need to SLAM to get CC level down to 0.5, or is this an entirely spurious measurement?

Thanks!

Since starting the Dichlor/bleach method everything has been going great and water clarity has remained spot on. Chem additions have been minimal other than the liquid chlorine and occasional light pH adjustments.

The water is just about 3mo old now. How long should I let it go before I should do another drain/refill?

Thanks again to all that helped with this switch.

Sorry for the late response, I somehow missed this reply entirely.

King simply told me this was normal for their frog system and that the CC is the "reserve" amount of chlorine this particular sanitizing system needs in order for the low TC levels to be effective. They did not elaborate on lowering CC in order to change sanitizing methods.

I didn't bother with the SLAM process and just dumped the water and started over as that was the easier option for me personally.

I drain/refill mine every three months.
I probably go 4-6 months, and when the bubbles dont dissipate quickly when you turn off the jets. After a while you can just tell when it is time.

Thanks. I was hoping this method could go a little longer than every 3mo like I was doing on the frog system. The water still looks like it did the day I refilled and have no issues with bubbles so guessing I can let it go a bit longer. I've not had to increase chlorine additions at all in order to maintain FC levels. Even if I go every 4 at least that's one less time each year so would be nice.

I do roughly every 5- 6 months. I generally have no cc’s or maybe .5 but near time to exchange the water that will be more persistent instead of hit or miss.
