Some help with adding boric acid needed.

I added a SWCG to my AGP a few days ago. From what I've gathered in my reading, My PH will tend to fluctuate more than what I was used to when using bleach. I've read through many threads and I like the idea of adding boric acid to increase borates to the recommended level of 50 ppm. My problem is, I see some threads saying "it's hard to adjust TA once you add borates" where others say "It's easier to adjust TA with muriatic acid once you add borates". I'm just not sure if I should lower my TA before I add the boric acid? And how much boric acid do I add at one time? I know my current level is 8ppm. I added some Borax to increase as well as muriatic acid to keep PH under control. The boric acid seems easier and more cost effective since it doesn't appear that you need to add anything to counteract an increase or decrease somewhere else.

Also, when I add the boric acid, do I turn off the SWCG or just let it run?

Thoughts and advice are appreciated. Sorry for all the questions lately. Adding the SWCG has me feeling like a newb again.

I bought mine from duda diesel 2 years ago. I ended up letting it drop back down below 20 ppm because it seemed dumb to me in retrospect to render 10,000 gallons of an emergency water supply for a SHTF scenario unpotable.

That's where I'm planning to buy mine from. After looking at the cost for Borax plus muriatic acid and then the time involved, I figured boric acid was the best way to go.

If there is one thing we all should have learned from a stupid virus, a badly steered freighter, a pipeline ransomware hijacking, a freak Texas freeze and a Louisiana chemical factory fire, it should be that the modern world is a LOT more fragile than most people think it is.
