Update - Post SLAM

Hey everyone. I’m about two weeks past SLAM procedure and just tested the water again. Here’s what I’ve got:

Cl - 5-10
pH - 8.2
FC - 12.5
CC - 0.5
CH - 450
TA - 270
CYA - 30

Previous readings were:

Cl - 0.5
pH - 8.2
FC - 0.5
CC - 0.5
CH - 375
TA - 290
CYA - 30

My question to you folks is, what should I attack next? I need to bring the pH down again probably. To do that I’ll need to grab some more muriatic acid tomorrow. Anything else I should do?

Raise your CYA to 70 ppm for the SWCG.
Once your FC gets below 10 ppm, your pH test will be valid. Mange the pH in the 7's. If you wish to lower the TA quickly, follow the procedure described in Pool School.

Alright, I’ll get some cyanuric acid and muriatic acid tomorrow morning - I need to run into town to get some fertilizer for the trees anyhow.

Once that’s done I’ll follow the steps to bring TA down.

Hey bud, quick question. Pool math is asking me to add 15lbs of cyanuric acid. I understand I need to suspend it with socks... does it slowly dissolve? Do I just suspend one sock at a time or several at once? It seems like a lot of dry acid, I just want to make sure I’m doing it right.

After a few hours of suspension I'll squeeze the sock by hand for a minute so the dissolved CYA will float out into the pool/skimmer. I'll repeat this for two or three more days until the sock is empty. I find when I just leave the sock alone, the CYA won't completely leech out of the sock for weeks. Maybe my old socks are too high quality

You can hang multiple socks, one for each return. 6 of my returns go to the spa. I put 4 lbs of CYA in an old pool cleaner bag and hung it in front of the spa outlet. CYA was gone in a few hours. If you have a water fall, this works great. Any big bag, maybe even a big leaf skimmer, would do.
