Hey y'all. I am new to this forum (first post hah!) and am having some ground leveled and putting up an above ground 16x48 round pool shortly. I know the pump it comes with is garbage (as the reviews state), so I wanted to know what is a good quality pump/filter to use for it that is not too expensive?? I have been researching a lot and not exactly finding concrete information. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

I would start by reviewing the info from the link below. In addition, be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info. Also be sure to include any other demands you may have such as a heater, chlorination method, accessories, or anything else that may apply as those can influence the pump/filter requirements. If all you have is a standard AGP with nothing else, you have a wide variety of pump/filter combos to choose from, or you can get a separate pump and filter. if you have no other water demands, you could probably get-by with a pump motor from 3/4 to 1 HP in strength, but look for a 2-speed if you can since single speed motors are energy hogs. If you have a filter preference (i.e. cartridge, sand, or DE) let us know that as well.

Thank you! That is a lot of info. to learn. I am new to all of this lol. I think it's a standard AGP? Bestway steel frame 16x48. I have heard sand is the best way to go? I am open to all opinions and advice! I am sure I will learn as I go. Thank you!Congrats on the new pool.

Sand is certainly very popular and user-friendly when it comes to filter cleaning. You lose a little bit of water from backwashing, but generally that's not an issue unless you are on water restrictions or perhaps are on a well (iron water - bad).
Thanks, Texas Splash! I appreciate that information. I am completely brand new to this game, so pardon my rookie questions. I know pumps/filters have gone up in price of course, but do you have any that you would recommend for a 16x48 pool?

You are correct on costs. Everything is going up. A pump/filter combo is convenient, but even those are increasing in price to the point it's almost just as good to get separate components. The downside about combos is some of them cannot be repaired later, and the sizes may be limited. But below is an example of a separate filter and pump as a comparison.
