Building a new 30' AGP (Saltwater 5000 model, approx. 24K gallons). Looking to pick up a Filter/Pump combo to make sure I have all the parts and that it's all compatible. Would have been interested in the Hayward CC-1500 (150 ft^2) with the Hayward 1.5HP, 2-speed pump, but that combo doesn't seem to be available and I'm trying to avoid buying separate pump/filter and then needing to find the base, hoses, clamps, fittings, etc. I even considered a VSP like the Harris/Doheny 1HP and then pick up the Hayward CC-1500 separately, but then I'd need to find a suitable base and all of the other parts so I'm thinking everything together from one manufacturer is the safest/simplest bet for me being a new pool owner.

I can get an AquaPro 190ft^2 w/2HP, 2-speed online or a Jacuzzi J-C150 (150ft^2) w/1.5HP, 2-speed in a local pool store for about the same price ($899). I can also get a Waterway Clearwater 150ft^2 (which supposedly comes with base and hoses/clamps) and then the matching Waterway ProLine 2HP, 2-speed pump for about $650 (i.e. $250 less than the others). The AquaPro seems to get good reviews and is supposed to be pretty quiet, but it seems hard to find replacement filters anywhere.

Any opinions on these or any other comparable choices that are currently available? Might add a SWG and Heater later if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

I have the Waterway CW2 150 sq ft filter and their 1.5hp 2-speed pump. Works great and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

Edit: As you can see I use the base the system came with but I didn’t use the hoses.

Awesome, thanks for the response and the photo was very helpful! I assume you run it on low speed most of the time? Is it pretty quiet?

BTW, what are those ball valves you have--they look really nice and rugged...

The system came with a 1 speed pump which was super strong and pretty loud. I just upgraded to the 2 speed this Spring and it’s fantastic. Super quiet on low (pretty much can’t hear it unless you’re standing right by it), still plenty of power. I use a cordless vac (Pool Blaster Max) so I’ll leave the pump on low probably 99.9% of the time it’s running— unless I need to manually vacuum or otherwise need the extra power for some reason.

The valves are Pentair model 263038 and I’m super happy with them. I paid $32/ea last year on Amazon. Prices seem to be quite inflated right now, probably because of the Texas freeze damage but I’m hoping they come back down. (We’re going to try solar this Summer so I was looking to add a 3-way valve).

I agree it would be a lot to take on at first but I could tell you what you'd need to complete this setup. It would involve converting the pump to side discharge which Doheny/Harris will say not to but it's perfectly doable with simple tools if you're moderately handy. Will probably void warranty unless you're sneaky and convert it back.

The parts list (I can clarify with part numbers) would be:

Harris VS Pump
150 Xstream filter
Xstream base
Pump to filter union
Flex hose set (For skimmer and return connection, if you're not hard plumbing)

It would be a pretty sweet setup.
