Added Chlorine Shock and Muriatic acid to Cloudy Pool, FC still 0.6

Oh whoa! Those are some crystal clear pools. I’ll be very happy if mine comes to look like those. Hopefully will post a pic in the next day once all algae is gone.

Just wanna point out that those are ALL regular Joe/Jane pools. And any one of them will hold its own with any brochure pic out there. Yours will too.

Another round of updates:

At 7:45pm (yesterday) I tested the water:
FC = 23ppm
CC = 0.5ppm

In order to maintain 24ppm for SLAM, PoolMath says to add 38 oz of LC (10%) which I did.

At 11:10pm (yesterday) I tested the water again:
FC = 21.5ppm
CC = 0.5ppm

In order to maintain 24ppm for SLAM, PoolMath says to add 96 oz of LC (10%) which I did.

Today morning at 8:10am I tested the water:
FC = 27.5ppm
CC = 0-0.5ppm

Question: Does it matter if the FC went up by that much? CYA at the beginning of SLAM was 60. I'll test the water again in 3 hours and see what the levels of FC are but should I add more LC (10%) if it dips below 24ppm? I don't expect the FC to drop by 3ppm in 3 hours but maybe with more sunlight it will.

Maintain SLAM levels. (Hence the ‘M’).
anytime the FC dips below the target you will lose some algae killing strength. Overshooting the target slightly decreases the optimal chlorine efficiency VS cost. So you lost some product that you didn’t need to add, but what you added will still do its thing. If the worst that happens today was you wasted $3 in bleach, it was a good day.

Great, thanks! Not worried about cost at this point since I'll be firing the pool service folks which will save me greatly in the future! I'll continue to maintain the SLAM levels. It's me against the Algae and I want to win!

When you fire the pool guy, just know that the pool is going to need to be fed daily once your SLAM is complete. Consider it like a new puppy.

Yeah should be fun (I hope)! Bought 12 gallons of LC (10%) and bought more Taylor R-0871 Fas-Dpd Titrating agent to continue testing for FC. Already used a lot of it while testing during the SLAM.

You'll go through chlorine when performing a SLAM. If you stay on top of daily testing and feeding your pool then you'll never truly have to SLAM again. Just dont get lazy and/or buy a SWG.

You see you're finally realizing that the once a week pool guy thing can't work as seeing this process first hand. Now that you know that LC is an every day thing it makes more sense to move onto SWCG because the pool needs it every day. It boils down to do want to be at the chlorine thing or let it be with SWCG all dialed in. I'll tell you that when you finally go with salt there be no looking back.

I just fired the pool servicing company. At this point I’m all in. I told them that I had to SLAM the pool and get the FC up to 24ppm using almost 6 gallons of LC. He said that was probably an overkill if the pool wasn’t looking green and 2 gallons would have taken care of it. I wasn’t at the point that I wanted to argue so we left it at that. I trust TFP and I know where to turn to for pool related questions.

Want to point out that you did two other smart things while SLAMing: removing the floater (your CYA is not bad but shouldn't go any higher. You'll find that it will drift down slowly one the summer scorch begins), and removing leaves and debris. These are organic material that will consume chlorine. I try and get em outta my pool as soon as possible, and may be accused of mild OCD!

If you decide to continue with LC instead of an SWG, just ensure that your chlorine is inside during the summer. The TX heat will degrade it pretty quickly. I keep mine in my laundry room.

Keep at it. I'd recommend to break open your filter and clean it even with just plain old garden hose water. Not necessarily are any chems needed now for the cleaning. Afterwards the slam will run to the finish line real fast.

I just looked at your pictures above again and it looks like there's some green stuck in/around your floor drain? That could be a culprit, so try and get that out of there for sure.

This is going to sound dumb but I ran out of the R-0871 Fas-Dpd Titrating reagent due to multiple testings (48 drops = 24 ppm, multiple tests a day). I only had the .75oz bottle I went to Leslie's and they didn't have that in stock.
