What to turn off in order to repair plumbing?

Hi all,

I am not a pool expert, nor close. My pool builder and maintenance company usually handle all I need.

However in recent storm that hit Texas....everyone is booked solid. I finally had my maintenance company out today and they got my pool running again. I had damage to a couple valves and PVC in certain areas.

The tech who came out today got the pool running. That’s their goal and the they would come back in a month or so and finish repairs to other things like water features.

Well, I found some guys who have repaired pool pvc plumbing. But they were working with a pool builder who knew the equipment...these guys just do the pvc work and can replace valves. They don’t know how everything works however. The pool tech said this was a good idea since everyone is so backed up especially if they are good at PVC work.

My question is, what do I need to turn off and/or drain so they can safely work this afternoon? Now that the pool is running, I will need to turn it back off for them to work...I just don’t know what might need to happen to get water out of pipes so they can finalize any cracked or leaking pieces.

Pentair equipment with DE filter and pump running now. Water feature pump and circuit breakers are off for that as that whole section of pvc froze and cracked and will be replaced...but the pool plumbing has a small drip that needs to be repaired and the chiller pvc plumbing has a crack and it needs to be fixed...that’s currently turned off at the valves.

Thanks for any thoughts. I thought maybe just shutting off all circuit breakers would be fine then realized water will be in pipes...primarily for pool one that has small drip that will need repair. Maybe just drain pool pump? Should filter be drained too?

Ok here are pics...you can see the waterfall plumbing damage...that’s all turned off and will be ready to repair.

The drip where you can see some wet pavement is where I’ll need to turn stuff off to fix. The pool is still running fine this morning except for that small drip.

Just curious what to turn off and make sure pipes aren’t full of water.

The plumbing in the ground that is exposed because of a crack is for the chiller. I assume even though we aren’t running it we need to cut off water so they can repair it also and the diverter that’s cracked right there...they talked about replacing the diverter to the right of it also as the pipe coming into it has a crack in it.

Thanks for any thoughts of what to shut down and drain so this work can be done.

it doesn’t matter if there is water in the pipes. When they cut into the pipes, the water will drain if it hasn’t already.
No to be crude or anything, but a pvc repair guy should be able to handle pool water in a pipe. If you turn the pump off, then nothing is pressurized. This is a pool, not a house plumbing system. If the guys don’t know the difference then they shouldn’t be working on your pool.

Yep. I just put it in service mode and all was good.
