Hayward just released the latest firmware for the OmniLogic automation system - R4.0.0! The big news here is that future updates can now be done directly from the internet - no more plugging in a USB to perform an upgrade!!!

I installed it yesterday, and (per the known issues list) I had to restart my OmniLogic twice for everything to return to normal. It's working great - no issues so far!

Here is a list of features and enhancements added:
  • Over the Air Updates: Once upgraded to R4.0.0 via USB, the MSP will have the ability to perform internet upgrades of future firmware distributions of the controller and smart components.
  • Pentair and Jandy light control: Control the colors and shows of Pentair and Jandy Color LED lights from the Controller or Hayward OmniLogic App version 4.2.5. Not supported on legacy OmniLogic iPad app.
  • Solar Heat Priority: Support for solar priority and separate solar setpoint. Systems with a solar heater will now have the ability to set the solar temperature separately from the rest of the heaters, allowing people to maximize their free solar heat. In addition, if solar priority is enabled it will turn off the other heaters that are running when the solar heater becomes available. Solar prioritization of multiple solar heaters is not supported. Supported on OmniLogic App version 4.2.5. Not supported on legacy OmniLogic iPad app.
  • Sensor calibration: Ability to calibrate temperature sensors. To calibrate any temperature sensor, enter service mode, select the Sensors icon, then select the sensor that needs to be calibrated.
  • pH Timeout increase: pH Timeout can be increased to a maximum of 240 minutes during configuration
  • Edit Interlocks: Ability to edit interlocks. If an interlock needs to be modified, it now has the option to edit without having to delete and re-create the interlock.
  • Interlock: Support new interlock: “If equipment A is OFF Equipment B is forced ON, if equipment A is ON Equipment B is unaffected”
  • New TCELL: Support configuration of TCELL S3 (TCELLS315, TCELLS325, TCELLS340). Note: These cells will be available in the future.
  • Smart Component Recovery: The recovery option is only available when the system detects that a smart component needs to be recovered.
  • Cavitation alarms: Cavitation alarms are no longer displayed on the OmniLogic and the mobile app.

PoolBrews - Do you have an Hayward VS pump? I was reading the know issues and it says that a reconfiguration of the VS pump may be needed after the upgrade. Just wanted to know if you ran in to that known issue.

Thanks

I do have a Hayward VS pump, and I had no issues with the upgrade - no reconfiguration was required for me. I did have to restart the Omni twice for my schedules to run properly. I restarted as part of the upgrade, and my system did not start running as expected. I restarted again, and everything turned on as expected.

I ended up upgrading and ran in to same issue where scheduled tasks were not running after 1 reboot. Instead of rebooting again I tried to edit the scheduled task then save it and that seems to fix it as well.
Themes seem to work fine. Voice Commands to Alexa work.

Hello all,
Yesterday I noticed an alert in the Hayward app that states there is an upgrade available. Since 4.0 firmware enables this capability I was not surprised. However, Eg we n I click on the Notification nothing happens. Based on the 4.0 release notes I was expecting the ability to click on the upgrade alert and upgrade all from within the mobile app. I have not dismissed the notification yet as I plan on calling Hayward Monday to see what the expected behavior is. I also looked on their site and don’t see any new firmware updates listed.

Below is an excerpt from the 4.0 release notes that led me to believe I would be able to upgrade from the app. Anyone else having same issue?

“Recommended steps to upgrade over the air
1. Ensure that the MSP is communicating with the mobile app.
2. Ensure that the time clock and time zone on the MSP is correct.
3. When you see the “upgrade available alarm”, follow the instructions below to complete the upgrade. If you dont
not see the alarm try rebooting the MSP.
a. Tap on the alarm to display the alarm’s details
b. Tap on the Upgrade button
c. The system warns you that you are entering Service Mode.
d. Select the checkmark to continue the upgrade
e. It will bring you to the list of components that have an upgrade available
f. Select upgrade all and press the checkmark button
g. The upgrade will start
h. Wait for the upgrade to complete and verify it is successful
i. The screen will display "Your system is up to date"
j. Select the checkmark and the system will reboot.”

I'm having the same experience. Interestingly, the Hayward website still show 4.0 as the latest version with a 10/30/20 date.

Yup I noticed that as well. I purposely have not dismissed the alert or tried to upgrade from the panel itself since that defeats the purpose of over the air updates via mobile app. I will submit a ticket to Hayward to see what they say.

I got the same message. I went to the panel and selected Alarms. When I did, I was given the option to start the update. Everything worked perfectly well and I am now running version 4.0.1.

I don't recall the release notes indicating that updates could be initiated from the mobile app - it only said they would be available over the air - no USB stick required. If it were able to work from mobile, your Omni would shut down and stay down until you went to the panel to restart it. Updates require a shutdown (which the update does automatically), and a restart (which must be initiated from the main panel).

I wouldn't want to do an update from mobile - that could cause serious issues. If someone were to update while away from home and there was a problem with the update there would be no one around to ensure that everything was shutdown properly.

The only reason I was under the impression that you could do it via mobile app was this statement in the 4.0 firmware release notes:

Recommended steps to upgrade over the air
1. Ensure that the MSP is communicating with the mobile app.

If the idea was just to be able to only upgrade from the panel then why would the MSP need to be communicating to the mobile app to upgrade over the air? Maybe it's just to support receiving the notification in the mobile app that an upgrade is available and to go upgrade from the panel.

This is most likely to verify that the panel actually has connectivity to the internet. The mobile app does not communicate directly to the panel. The app connects to the Hayward service on the internet, which then communicates with the panel. The panel then responds to the service, and this updates the app.

Went into the Config wizard and chose to edit config. I changed the type from I believe incandescent to other and saved the config (Only those two choices). Now the color options are now showing on the omnilogic app. However, it appears that the only Jandy lights supported is the H-Series given the color choices on the app. I have the S-Series and ther is also the basic Pro Series and another P-Series all have different number of colors and names.

I completed an online e-mail form to Hayward but not expecting any response . I doubt they have too many software/hardware developers really working on this Product. Hopefully they can include the multiple choices.

Just got my pool opened and system running. Updated MSP to 4.0.1 over internet without issue.
Will it update other modules as well like smart relay, SWG control board, etc?

I get two notifications that keep popping up after dismissed on mobile: com loss to VSP and update available?

Latest MSP is 4.0.1, and MPP is 3.2.0. These only update the firmware on the OmniLogic. The first message indicates an issue communicating with your VSP pump. The 2nd indicates there is an upgrade available. Mine came up with the upgrade message about a week after I had installed 4.0.1. I'm not sure what it actually upgraded as the version # didn't change - maybe it's a test for the new upgrade over the air option.

Regardless, follow the instructions in the release notes to enable over the air upgrades, then install the upgrade that should be listed on the screen. When done, restart the OmniLogic. You may have to do this twice. The VSP message should go away.

Hmmm. I’m running 4.0.1 and have not received any update alerts since. How did you installed 4.0.1? Was it OTA? That’s how mine was in installed. Went from 4.0 to 4.0.1 OTA.

I upgraded to 4.01. Received notice via smartphone, wall mount screen and PC internet page app. Installed via the Omnilogic panel. All fine but did reboot twice just to be sure. Nice not to have to remove the front panel and upgrade via USB.
