Evening!

I have two Pentair 5Gs that I’ll be installing soon in our new pool. I see conflicting info here about NEC 680 and requirements for a J-box when using 12-volt lights. Can someone clear that up for me? It would seem that you would bond the niche to the bond loop and then just run the conduit right into the transformer - another connection is just another point of failure. Perhaps I’m making this too simple?

Wes,

I have a light and no junction box.. The key is that my light's cable is long enough to reach my automation system.. No matter what voltage lights you use, you don't want any connections underground, so you would need a junction box any time the cable is not long enough to get to the necessary power.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Terrific. Exactly what I needed. I’ll have plenty of wire, so straight to the transformer it is.

Did the electrician came already? They should have left everything ready for when the guys come and run the the lights back to the panel/switch. Juntion box is all the way on the left with 2 conduit coming from each light.

Thanks for the reply! I’m the electrician in this case, so I guess so. I’ve done a ton of panel work in my past,so I’m comfortable with the process, and a friend of mine who is a master electrician is going to check everything along the way for me, as the 680/pool stuff is new to me. Based on the advice here I should not need a junction box, as the wires will be long enough to terminate straight into the transformer enclosure.
