New Pool - Miami - Summer 2020 Build

YOu just cannot win! WOW out of stock THEN wrong ones put on??? REALLY?? GURRRRR

ummmmmmmmmmmm what??? Install should include putting the posts in the ground...........where else would they go??
Sorry I wasn’t clear. The guys that showed up to do the job thought that the posts would go in the coping. We only have 16 inches of coping, and the code is for the posts to be at least twenty inches outside of the pool. But still. This should not be a week delay. Embarrassing.

I'm pleased to report I have real progress. Ready for my breakthrough! Child fence installed yesterday, and a successful inspection today. Plaster scheduled for Monday...fingers crossed.

I will add -- our PB says his approach is to do plaster, fill pool with water, and only then add the equipment. My neighbor is a non-pool GC and his brain explodes at this process. I have brought it up to the PB a few times. Look, I've never built a pool before. I don't know what the merit of waiting until after would be, especially when every step of this has been delayed.

But that's enough negativity for this post. Let's hope the stars align and I have a real working pool in the coming days. Going to devote the weekend to plenty of rock and minor debris cleanup to get things looking right.

SWEET! YEAH  for forward movement!!

WHAT??? He fills with water THEN adds the equipment??? BUT the pump NEEDS to be running to get the a good start! Here is a link to how to start up new plaster:

Why can't you force him to install the equipment first, like every other PB?
Yeah, you are probably right. The GC across the street and I have spoken about this regularly. This is the way this builder works; I have it in writing in case it comes up later. I do trust the logic and experts on TFP way more than I trust him, but ultimately it's his responsibility. Going to really sweat it once the plaster is on up until the water is flowing...

I'm sorry you're experiencing so many delays. I know its frustrating! My pool build was delayed every step of the way, it was cursed! Day one of building, they hit the main power line that was tagged in one place and ended up being outside the easement and in my yard, had to fight the power company to get it moved. Day one of gunite we got a massive storm that wasn't in the forecast, came out of nowhere, they had to quickly flash it and came back to finish, rained again a few hours later but at least gunite was done. Pebble finish plaster, the hose got clogged and exploded! They tried their best to bring it in wheelbarrows and do it by hand, sadly it didn't set right and had to be taken all out and reapplied. When removing the plaster, they damaged some of the coping, so those had to be replaced. Pool equipment/automation wouldn't get the heater to kick on, only the chiller. Automation board was bad...had to get a new one. Add in a bunch of rain and covid and we got more delays. It was supposed to be a 4-6week build MAX, but took near 3 months for everything to be done. The PB and his project manager were great though and were always ready to go and make things right ASAP.

Yeah...this has been some ride! Glad they got it all done for you.
We will be at the four-month mark on Monday. This after many months of permit issues. I am just ready to be swimming and enjoying my yard...it will be the perfect way to spend a Covid weekend safely at home. Can't wait!

When are they planning on filling the pool? Have them give you a schedule and any requirements that you need to do prior to them plastering and filling the pool. Make sure you understand the local codes and what your PB is not going to handle. Are you installing a Baby fence or are you going to do the alarms? This is required before filling a pool in South Florida. Also, for the final electrical inspection, they check the exterior outlets to make sure they are GCFI outlets or on a GFCI Circuit. I believe the code says any lutlet that is within 20ft of the water is required to be protected. Without the electrical inspection you cannot turn on the power to the equipment. Which brings me to this question. Did they make all the electrical runs from your house to your pool equipment location?
GO GATORS!!!

I am thrilled to announce we have water in the pool and the final inspection. Was approved.
For all of my griping at the slow slog this summer, it was really a smooth finish. Once the plaster was added on Wednesday 9/23, we filled the pool up all day 9/24, and then we got the pumps in on Saturday morning 9/26.
Now in Miami it has basically been raining since Thursday afternoon, but I am hoping for some sun later today to get back out there.

I promise I will return in the coming weeks when the surroundings don’t look like a junkyard.98B43929-B0F8-4C6C-8CCA-E511F21569C2.jpeg
