Balancing Help

You should not lose more than 4 ppm FC or so during the day. Maybe a bit more if the FC is well above target range for your CYA. But 17.5 ppm? That is a bit excessive.

I would suggest you do the OCLT again. Be sure to brush the pool, etc after you have added the chlorine for the night. Then test 30 minutes later.

Ok. I will bring it back up to shock level and try again.

Ok last night, I lost 3 PPM. Still need to keep slamming. This is now 7 days. Here is what I have thus far.
7:15am: 17ppm
Add bleach per pool math
8:30am: 15 ppm
Add gallon of bleach
1145am: 12.5 PPM
Added bleach per pool math
3:30pm: 3.5ppm

This afternoon seems like a significant drop. Is something going on here? I am adding 4 gallons of bleach to bring back up to shock.

Managed to find a Leslie’s that sells liquid chlorine at 12.5%. Much more expensive but needed it. The SLAM is back on.
I also decided to shut off my ozone generator to see if that helps. There isn’t a switch on it so I just pulled a fuse out.

The Leslie’s bleach didn’t have any numbering on it and it doesn’t smell as strong as the 10% I’ve been using so I’m skeptical.
Interestingly I turned off the filter for a few minutes to clean to baskets and crawly, turned it back on and green dust came out. Yikes. It has been running non stop for probably ten days. Will clean the filter tomorrow.

It acts like your CYA is lower than you are testing.

If you are passing the OCLT, let the FC drop to target range and see if you can manage it there.

That is the issue. I believe it has been asked multiple times about the CYA level.

If the dot is at least clouded, add 20 ppm CYA using the sock method. If the clear, add 30 ppm worth.

Dang CYA test. So hard to read. I’m really scared to add too much. The water looks cloudy but I can see the dot, sun to my back. I added 7 lbs before I started this. Maybe an additional 4 lbs of dry stabilizer?
