Retaining Wall: Fieldstone Thin Ledge (old plan) or Split-Faced Travertine (new plan)?

The masons are here today, but the PB didn't communicate my changes to the guys, so they brought the original materials. Coping is fine since I never changed that (Ivory Travertine), but the waterline tile and retaining wall stone isn't. Since I never got to keep a sample of anything, I told them I'd take the morning to think about if they can use this or if they need to bring the correct materials Monday.

So I need help ASAP!

The original plan was to do Fieldstone Thin Ledge for the wall, and Oceans Cobalt for the waterline tile. I second guessed it and changed it to Silver Split Faced Travertine for the wall and Gemstone Silver for the waterline tile. Anyone have thoughts on the fieldstone over travertine for the walls? I think the blue waterline tile would stick out too much since my pool will be Stonscape Mini Pebble White... so the pool water will be really light color.

Here are some photos of the original idea (earthy and vibrant blue) versus the update (a muted silver/ grey)... Any advice?

Well I like the silver split faced travertine with the oceans cobalt waterline... sorry if that doesn't help you! I think the blue will stand out nicely with the lighter color water.

LOL that’s exactly what I was starting to think...! I might just tell them to go ahead and do this tile, but get the right stone for the wall for Monday. Too many decisions!!

I love option B. But then again I’m not a fan of any blue tiles or underwater finishes. There’s enough blue once you’re looking under water. No need to emphasize in my opinion. But I’m a minimalist.

Yeah, my main concern is the blue may be too different with the light blue water color. And all my inspiration photos are more modern, with greys and whites. The PB came out today and gave me a sample of the new tile just so I can look at it over the weekend. He thought it would be the best choice with the silver split faced travertine going up.

My main aggravation is any change needs to be the same price point- otherwise it creates a contract change of $150... I know that’s a drop in the bucket but it’s ridiculous. I’ve already paid it once... I’m not paying it again, so I’m stuck with a limited number of choices. I *think* I’ll be happy with the new one.

You’ll be living with this choice for a long time hopefully. Pay the $150 if it’s what you want.
