Poolside Planters - show them off!

I really would like to put a couple of planters around my plain jane pool, but Im so worried about them tipping or blowing over and making a humongous mess. Im still looking for a couple of planters that are more like boxes than pots, since they would be sturdier, I would think, with less chance to tip over. Great ideas here.

Use very large bottomed pots, like 1/2 barrels.

I had them build in my planters. One in the front to add color and height and the back ones to break up the waterfalls. (and for a place to replant my sago's which I was not willing to give up)
You can’t have too many waterfalls! Nice! What tile did you use for your waterline? Those blend really well with your stone.

@Fezick I’m not sure you have enough waterfalls.

looks amazing. Bet it’s super relaxing to listen to.
It really is. Here is the trick all the waterfalls except the main are sheers so the sound is very minimal. On the main waterfall i had them free from the granite edge to break up the water tension. I have three speeds for the main water fall and the max setting will drown out all sound if i want it to. Almost so it's hard to talk to others in the pool. 😁

My planters are doing great, and growing in really nicely. I worried about the saltwater splash, but it hasn't been an issue at all. Also worried about the tipping, but even with a pool full of teenage boys it hasn't been an issue, not even a close call. We filled the bottom with broken up cinder blocks, so while it's certainly possible to tip them, you would really have to be trying. These take full sun all day, and we get to 100+ on a regular basis so I was also concerned I would lose some of the plants, but they're all still hanging in there in various forms of thriving.

The silver falls dichondra is my absolute favorite, I love how it's cascading around the planters. Not fussy at all, super easy to take care of, I find it soothing to untangle the little tendrils.

The hypoestes has faded to mostly green, and I think I should have planted something a little larger to help support the lemon grass. It was good that the lemon grass provided some shade as without it I think the sun would have killed these off. Lesson learned for next year. Maybe some begonias will fare better.

The lemon grass is doing well, even in our 100 degree heat. I do have to water it daily, sometimes twice a day when we're well over 100. It likes more water than the hypoestes and dichondra, so I made the dirt shallower in the center so it gets more water than the other two and that seems to be working well.

Yes, thanks. That looks incredible. what type of palms are those behind the waterfall?
Sego palms. The name is a misnomer as they are cycads not palms and need to be fed differently. They grow slow but also are very hearty for the same reason. I'll get a newer pic sometime as the landscaping has grown in since this pic. 😁 fyi also these segos were replanted from around my pond that was in the yard prior to the pool. I love em.
