What do I do now?

Hi, It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here. I’m coming out from a huge Algae In my pool. I have finally got it cleaned up from that (I hope) and the water looks fair - is not crystal clear. I just tested and I have CC 2, FC 8.5, TOtal C 10.5, Alk 70, CH 125 and CYA 40. Is it just gonna take time for water to clear up? I have vacuumed to waste and added quite a bit of new water in the last couple of days. I will try to post a couple of pics and you will be able to see that my liner is stained a bit. What can BBC I do to get it back to normal?

Pat right now your FC is too low, inviting algae and your CC is high proving something is still in the water.
Did you follow the SLAM process, and to the end? You should stil be in SLAM mode, IMO.
How are you testing?

Hi, were you doing the SLAM Process or did you use another method to get to this point? If you were slamming, you need to continue until you meet all three end criteria. If you were not slamming, then you need to start, and continue until all three end criteria are met.

I have one of the Taylor test kits. Don’t rem the number but it one that was recommended by this group when I joined 2-3 years back. I did not follow the TFP SLAM process. I double shocked (using twice as much Shock as I would normally)the pool and used a flocculant to settle algae to bottom. Vacuumed to Waste. Re applied just Flocculant yesterday afternoon and had some algae settled to bottom this morning. Vacuumed to Waste. I do believe I am seeing some settlement of Algae still, so yes, I think all of the algae is not gone.

Thanks. I used another method to get to this point. It’s been awhile since I’ve read the instructions fir a SLAM so I’ll go Re educate myself on how to do that. Thanks so much!

We don't like the use of FLOC as a rule.... it has to be vacuumed to waste and not let into the sand filter, ok?

The kit you bought 3 years back has expired regents. I'll advise you order a refill from TFTESTKITS.NET so there should be better accuracy plus following TFP to the "T".

Thanks. I have replaced the regents and the ones I am using are current. The pool looks much clearer today than yesterday. I did vacuum to waste the algae I spoke of in an earlier post Yesterday and added more Chlorine as well.

Thanks. I vacuumed it to waste. It was a really heavy algae and I always vac to waste in a situation like that. I don’t like to run such a heavy algae through the filter. Other than having to add more water is there a reason not to vacuum to waste?

Well, water restrictions were such a problem in California a few years back so that's one example. Or someone whose water is in perfect shape chemistry wise and just need to tidy up the pool and don't want to lose their chemicals. Not all pools have a way to vac to waste... they're in a heap of trouble trying to get that stuff out of there.

But the bottom line is FLOC and Clarifiers rarely work the way they claim they will. Often getting people into a worst bind then where they were before. We don't like 'em!
