I was given a used pool, and seeing as they are impossible to find for sale right now I was grateful to receive it! But it seems that I am missing a part and so we aren't able to connect the pump/filter or fill the pool up all the way. I am not even sure what the part is called, so I am hoping to get some input from this group.

The pool is an Intex Easy Set 18' x 48". It is not the latest model, so it has only 2 openings in the side wall for the inlet/outlet for the filter. Each opening is a 3" diameter circle. What I am seeing online is that there is supposed to be "something" in those holes. The filter has hoses that connect to basket strainers with a hose clamp. But without the "something" in the wall of the pool, the filter pieces don't lock in or form any sort of seal to the wall. Water just pours out. What are these missing things and where can I buy them? If the original parts can't be purchased, what are my options?

Thank you!

You are missing the eyeball and the plunger valve. INTEX PARTS You can see in the drawing the parts that go in the return and inlet. You also have the small hose your picture is showing. I would assume that the pool had an upgraded filter and you didn't get the parts from it. The strainer you show won't work with the cutouts in your pool You would have to get adapters or the bigger hose also. What filter/pump do you have?

The filter is an Intec 1000 gph pump, #637R I believe. I found a 3" bulkhead fitting, I am about to see if it will seal the opening. If it's a good fit, I may just take the strainer basket and epoxy it to the bulkhead. That way I can still remove everything if I change out the pump later just by unscrewing the bulkhead.

You are correct, there is no eyeball or plunger valve. Just two strainers. I am trying to order a replacement (hard to find them in stock and a lot of the Amazon links go to seller's with reviews that make me wary). Is the plunger valve a necessity? Or just a good idea to have? I see some filters came with them, some did not.

If you can afford to upgrade the pump I would highly suggest it. The pump you have is a pain and you will be cleaning it often. The Intex sand filter and pump is a good upgrade and it might even come with the parts you are missing for the pool inlet and return. I don't remember for sure. If you plan on keeping the current pump you will want some way to stop water from draining out of the pool when you clean the filter. For the type of fitting you have there are rubber caps you put on them when you remove the strainer. You might be able to find vacuum caps from a local automotive store or measure the OD of where they would go under the strainer and find them online.
