Now that I have your attention, I am a new above ground pool owner thanks to COVID. Summer Waves 9' x 18' with Summer Waves filter, 5000 gallons. I was using ClearView Shimmer and Shock to manage the pool and all of sudden the CYA level reached 152. I drained the pool and now these are my levels from Leslie's I tried to use the pool math on my phone but was so confused by it! Any advice welcome!! I have been told to use liquid chlorine to avoid the CYA increasing.

Are you verifying the numbers with a quality test kit? If not, get one asap as pool store testing accuracy varies by the salesperson doing the test. The tf-100 (sold here) or taylor k-2006 are what you want. First thing first get your free chlorine up to 3-5 ppm. At 5000 gals, you need to add 28 ounces of 10% bleach (liquid chlorine) As your chlorime is way too low to prevent alge from forming. Once you get your test kit post your numbers so we can all review and suggest making necessary corrections.

Interesting about the salesperson at Leslie's....I wondered the same. I just ordered the K-2006 but it won't be here until Friday. i will have to rely on the test strips until then.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
Did you order the K2006C -- the C matters. If not, then you need to order FAS-DPD reagent refills now. Also CYA reagent.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

No. That does not have the FAS-DPD test. You would have to buy that separate.

Honest, the TF100 is the best deal out there. Add the SpeedStir, and you are set.

And a Leslies TA is not the real TA. They 'adjust' it so they can convince you to buy overpriced baking soda.
