First Pool - Many Questions

Well after convincing my wife to get a pool, it was her idea to go to the local pool store over the weekend (Great Escape). We ended up buying the Aqua-Leader Athena 21' x 54" AGP with their Installation. I had them delete the Hayward Voyager 150sf Cartridge Filter, Hayward 2HP Single Speed Pump and Nature2 system and they credited me $500 (better than nothing). I can get some better equipment through my work (least I think it is better) and those are listed in my signature.

I am trying to find out if the pool is "Salt Friendly" and don't really trust the salesman there to answer that. I reached out to Aqua-Leader by using their contact us and am waiting for a response. The pool is all resin except the wall of course so I am assuming it will be okay.

Looking to see if anyone has more information on this pool and if the equipment list I have is sufficient or overkill? Any feedback is much appreciated!
 
I don't see any issues here, but I'm far from an expert. If it's all resin, you should be good with a salt system.
When I purchased our 2 speed pump, it came with a recommended range of salt PPM that would be ok. Maybe just double check that on your pump side...
 
Quality pools have no issues with salt. Cheap pools have issues with water in general.
Now as far as a 'warranty', no idea. Rare you will get a warranty claim through on an above ground pool anyway.

Order a test kit now. TF100 from Test Kits or Taylor K2006C. The TF100 is the better value.

Thanks for the info mknauss and dbdubb28. I'm still trying to find the actual manual for the pool but am unable to find it. Hopefully the manufacturer will contact me back and provide it.

I am still torn about which SWG I want to go with. I don't want to go all out and spend a fortune on one. I was looking at the Hayward Salt & Swim 3C but am not too sure about the 6-12 month replacement cell costs. The other one I was looking at was the Solaxx (Forgot the model#) which looks to be pretty decent for the $$. Still have to do some more research.

I may hold off on the heater for now and do the SWG instead. Being in IL I'm thinking that may not be the best move though. The pool is not expected to be installed till mid Sept.
 
Leave a straight run in the plumbing for a SWCG install next spring. You will not get much use out of it this year with that late of install.

What is the volume of the pool? Put that in your signature.

Have not seen many Solaxx except for units for spas. Check out Circupool. You will need a timer of some sort for any SWCG.

I would say the RJ20 or the Edge 25. Some members have liked the Edge design. They create a continuous stream of chlorine instead of the off/on process of the other types. You would do well with either.

Well I just spoke to the HOA for my community and they have a different set of rules compared to the Village for installing pools. I had to send them a "Special Review" letter since they want it to be 20 feet from the rear lot line. If I install the 21 foot it will be 17.5 feet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they will approve the 21 foot and if not then I have to go to the smaller 18 foot.

If I do have to go to the 18 foot, do you think the equipment I have listed in my signature will be okay or too large for that size pool? I'm still torn on the heater and if I should get one or not.

You could argue that the majority of the pool will be 20 feet away, lol! Our heater has probably doubled the use of our pool this season already, a few degrees makes all the difference.
 
Any opinions on the equipment I plan on getting and if it will work with an 18 foot AGP? I'm debating on if I should just get the equipment they offer and upgrade over time. Being our first pool I don't want to mess this up. If I decide to get my own equipment I would have to install all of it since the included installation would be just for the excavation and pool setup.
 
A two speed pump normally meets all you need unless you have water features or specific needs for a certain rpm.

Though, there is not much cost difference between a two speed or the Superflo VS.
 
I don’t know what the price difference is between a dual speed and the variable speed, but I can tell you that last season I replaced my single speed Hayward pump with a variable speed 3 hp pentair.... the pentair is so much quieter than the old Hayward was, even on 100% speed, and running at a low speed has enabled me to cut my electric bill from the pool in more than half, even though I run now 24 hours a day vs 8 hours with my single speed

Gesh, I only run mine 2 or 3 hours a day.

There is no arbitrary number of how much you need to run your pump. The minimum is enough to add your chlorine (with a SWG or a stunner pump) or enough to mix your chlorine if you’re using jugs.
I live in the woods near the river and end with with a large amount of debris and insects in the pool. I run mine constantly to keep up the skimming
