First test results. Help with raising CYA

Honestly, if it had been me, I would have drained it, scrubbed it out and refilled. But then I've done that twice in the last 2 years...Stupid CYA...

Stick with it! Chlorine only. Don't get side-tracked on anything else other than brushing and the SLAM level. You'll get it. Cleaning that filter was obviously a big deal. :goodjob:

Ugh, my friends, my dudes, my fellow drinkers of that PoolAid. I now have like most of my family coming at me doubting this whole process, saying it isn't progressing and it's not gonna work. I'm trying to stay strong my friends. I got my uncle's saying I need to flocc and algaecide and people saying there's no progress🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷🤷. I wish they would understand that this isn't a quick fix and that doing this is a way so that a week from now we don't have some green algae bloom.

I'm not changing course, but man, ngl, it stings a little to hear what they're saying....

So, my husband isn't really into the PoolAid™ and he keeps trying to put algicide in the pool because it's green. I'm just about done with day 4 of my slam and I have to keep fending him off.

That's where the strict Aussie pool fence regulations come in handy - ideal to keep unhelpful helpers out.

Keep up the good work, you are doing great!

LooLooPoolNoo,

Best username on TFP in a while! Best attitude, too.

I hope you don't let the naysayers get you down. Opinions are like **7^***(you know what),.............Everybody has one.

In the case of TFP, the method is not an opinion it is the collective work of thousands and thousand of pool owners many of whom have been doing this for over 15 years.

Tell your spouse and others to read this thread and then post where the faulty thinking is.......of course, they won't but they will still retain their opinion of ignorance.

Your progress is predictable and on time. Your pool will soon be crystal clear and your unsupporting family will still say, "Yeah, but, if you had..........."

So question my friends, in regards to the best way to utilize my filter/pump.

We're in day six of slam. Not too much chlorine loss overnight. Added some in, def seeing improvement. I'm still getting the occasional cloud of gunk when I brush the deep end. We've vacced it, but it's not clear enough to see where these patches are. What comes of is a mix of large white flakes and chunks of green algae.

Heres my question.

Right now, how the pump is set I was told it's half and half, which the pool people who installed it says it means half pressure to the skimmer on top and half going to the (Idk the right word so) suckhole on the bottom of the deep end. I know there's something down there. I feel it when I brush. Feel like a grate of some sort, I'd say about 6 by 6. Since the top of my water is clear and the bottom is murky would it be a benefit to flip the pump so that it sucks the water from the bottom and then spits it out on top?
Is this a thing or m I misunderstanding what the pool guys said? I wasn't sure if it would help with clearing the cloudiness faster.

I'll add that though my water level has come down a bit (it's been hotter than Hades is upstate NY this week) and the skimmer is picking some more stuff up, I'm still hand skimming every 4 hours or so because I have a TON of noseeums and gnats in the pool and they gross my TF out, lol.

Lemme know what you aqua-brainiacs think!

Normally, you should run with about 90% of suction through the skimmer and at most 10% through the main drain.

If you have lots of material still on bottom and are unable to get the vac to pull it out, you could try going 100% from main drain while you brush towards it. But once you are finished brushing, return the valving so most of the suction is through the skimmer.

I think you (and Marty) have a good idea. Put it on at least 90% bottom and keep an eye on your psi as the cartridges begin to catch that debris. Your psi may go up quite quickly.....especial if you slowly brush toward that main drain that you cannot see.

continue to brush and vac as practicable.

Once this SLAM is over, switch back to at least 80% skimmer as marty indicated as Marty indicated.

It *used* to be called a main drain, but it won’t anymore. :laughblue::laughblue::laughblue:
Loo loo,

I'm a newbie as well and posted about my cya mistake and pucks yesterday. I knew better. Your can read and learn from my mistake. I caught it early though. God speed with your endeavors.

But my main reason for posting is this. If you can tm Poolio, I can tm LL Pool J. Ha. My wife just chuckled. My first name is Jim so it fits.

Carry on.
