I'm going to remove SWG as an option - these are the two i have been offered. I saw posts about how about Nature2 is here, but another pool guy said Ozone is not good. What should i be thinking here? I'm about operating cost and time, upfront cost (if it applies) is not a big deal.
 
I'd avoid UV- you get plenty free from the sun. Also avoid Nature2 as that adds metals to your water. Metals cause stains and green hair. Finally Ozone is a waste. It provides no residual sanitation to the pool on the whole. Only cleans a fraction flowing over the lightbulb....which is too small anyway. Good for indoor pools sometimes.

Stick with SWG.

Just going to parrot what's already been said: everyone here is going to suggest the exact opposite of what you are saying. SWG yes, Ozone no, Nature2 heck no!

Is the salt water going to taste salty? I've heard the water actually feels different. It's surprising the leading brands out here are so negatively thought of. every builder gives the same negative thoughts and i've read the forum posts that dispute that. In fact the most interesting post is when a guy said the water was the culprit of damage.

I guess my most legitimate concerns is my patio furniture is really nice and i'm concerned salt water will affect that. The coping, surround, and equipment doesn't really concern me.
 
Your quality pool furniture will be unaffected by your pool water. If you live in the swamps of Texas, that will be far more destructive of pool furniture.

Like we say, up to you. But don't you think all these people on the forum, many that most likely live in the same climate as you, that have SWCG's, and have no issues, would be lying?? None of us own a company that manufactures or sells SWCG's.
 
I have the del ozone solar eclipse and this year not using it. every year I have to replace all of the cells a 4-500 dollar a pop and the check valve a few times a season, I end up using chlorine anyway. the first year its was great, now just a waist.. I called the company and they can't tell me whats wrong, should of just used chlorine or SW from the get go.

So are you going SWG?

It sounds like i need to put my foot down on this and get an SWG? Are my kinds going to complain about the taste of the pool?

Some notice a difference in taste, some don’t. I notice a difference in taste if I’ve been in a non-salt pool, but it doesn’t bother me. I would think one would get use to it pretty quick. IMO, a salt pool feels much better than a non-salt pool.
 
A rare person can taste salt below 3400 ppm. Also, they should not be drinking pool water!

I have three saltwater pools in the DFW area and none of them has any problems related to saltwater..

Keep in mind that the ocean has a salt level of about 35,000 ppm. You're tears and a saltwater pool have a salt level of about 3,500 ppm

If your patio furniture has not rusted being outside in the rain, then the saltwater will not make any difference.

Most chlorine pools that have been in use for over a year or so have about 1,000 to 1,500 ppm of salt just from the chlorine.

Just to make sure we are all on the same page... A saltwater pool is a chlorine pool.. It is the chlorine that keeps the pool sanitized and clear. But instead of adding tablets of chlorine, or liquid chlorine, the Saltwater Chlorine Generator (SWCG) just uses the slightly salty water to make the chlorine that your pool needs to stay clear.

We just try to provide you with unbiased facts.. We have nothing to gain by telling you a story. That said, don't let us push you into doing something you are not comfortable with.

Most little rug rats don't really care what the water tastes like, one way or the other, they just want to swim.. :mrgreen:

Right. If you are on Galveston island or S Padre Island, that applies. Whether you have a pool or not.
 
Okay, I’m 90% there on going SWG.
Even found a local builder who describes the difference in a positive light.

Not trying to be picky, but the salt has nothing to do with sanitizing a saltwater pool.. Both types of pool use the same chlorine to sanitize the pool ,and they both work at the same speed.. The only difference is that in a standard chlorine pool you have to manually add the chlorine. With a saltwater pool, the SWCG just makes the chlorine for you from the saltwater.
